Guys the KTM svc center has told me that they would bereplacing my engine Head on account of the valve noises I've been encountering. I am at about 9200kms but thevalve noises must've surfaced about 1000kms before. In any case our KTMs use a shim system where the clearance of the valve is achieved by the correct shim size replacement every 10,000kms or so. So can anyone tell me why they would need to change the entire Head of the Engine? Although it's being done under warranty I really couldn't get a straight answer out of the service center as to why they would wantingly give me a new engine head just for a valve clearance issue...???Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

you should be happy that with age, your bike is getting newer.
On a serious note, there could be multiple reasons. One, the dealership cant solve it. Two, they want to study the defect. Three, Dealership wants to earn more profit from selling you the part FOC, but charging it from the company (though this could be far fetched)Hero Honda Karizma

Hey guys, I have completed some 6k odd kilometers on my duke and will go in for the first paid service in a few days.
The thing is, I am all set to get leh'd this season and i haven't actually faced any major problems yet, though had a minor accident last month.
I have been facing this problem from quite some time now, the winters are pretty harsh here in Delhi and its a pain in the butt to get the bike started in the mornings.
It takes like constant pressing of the ignition switch for at least a couple of minutes while giving full throttle. And even after that i have to constantly rev the bike till it heats up half way or the engine dies.
Is this normal ? won't it harm the fuel pump or something. ?
I took it to the svc which is some 30 odd kms from my place and obviously the bike was pretty heated up and i wasnt able to show them what the problem is, they asked me to bring it back and leave it with them for sometime.
Also do i need any mods to get leh'd on my duke?
I have almost no experience of riding on highways
When life gives you Yamaha, make it RD350 not R15. :D

Im quite surprised to hear that. Usually Fuel injected engines dont have cold start problems. Are the Winters that Cold in Delhi? :P .Maybe you should report this to the SVC.Originally posted by Abhishek2255 View PostHey guys, I have completed some 6k odd kilometers on my duke and will go in for the first paid service in a few days.

yep it was too cold in the past few weeks..the coldest temperatures we usually had was around 3,4 and 5 degree C. So I think that might be cold enough to cause trouble.Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

As i Stated above, i am all set to get leh'd this season, so wont it be a major concern ? Considering the temperatures there ?When life gives you Yamaha, make it RD350 not R15. :D

@Abhishek2255 Yes cold starts are one of the USPs of FI vehicles, besides the coolant also acts as an antifreeze so nothing should be going wrong with the engine internals even in Delhi winters. So it could probably be your valves need some clearance checks or adjustments because they also contribute to starting the bike and any hiccups that occur should be cross checked by looking at the valve clearances. Check for valve noises too.Last edited by joshzma225; 01-16-2013, 10:52 PM.Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.
