My bike 28,000kms old and is producing faint stitching machine sounds from last 4-5 months. ASC mechanic told me to get the shims changed, while other mechanic told me its okay. I can't hear that noise when riding, but if there is silence around me (basement parking), stitching machine sound is clearly audible from 4-5 feet distance.

Do i need to get the shims job get done?

Any ideas how much it would cost? some posts i have read previously say, it will cost around 2k including labour while other posts say 6k.
Mine's shim work costed me 4.5K including labor

If it's not loud enough (not audible in helmet) and not audible at cold start, you don't require to change shims IMO. Better get your valve clearances checked - if under specified clearance, no worries at all.

A single shim costs 224 INR. In rare occurrences you would need to replace all 4. Most of times it is either 1 shim or 2 shims. I am not aware about the labor cost, but it requires hell lot of time to work on shim. I did replace mine (all shims) at home and I remember it took almost a day (started working at 8 am and finished the job by 2 pm). The most irritating things are removing fairings and tank and remounting them. Mine is working fine since then and it has crossed 42K km by now. It was an used bike (8100 Km on odo when I bought it). Shim noise was already there. I changed those shims at 18k km on odo. Before that I got my valve clearances inspected once at Malwa Honda at odo reading around 16000 KM and their labor charge for that was 1000 INR. I rode with same jingling - went on long trips as well. Some were 900 KM in a day and that jingling was permanent - neither decreased not increased. It didn't affect in power or performance either.

If your valve clearances are within normal limit, just ignore that sound and ride on...

Hello everyone, I wonder if Indian CBR250R has side stand engine kill feature just like US models? I tried engaging the side stand while in gear, but the ignition didn't cut off.

I'd like to know, how do I point out the shim noise, at 36000km I'm not facing issues.

It'll be constant sound like a hand sewing machine sound. I'm also getting the same sound & the ASC guys told me to replace the shim. It'll be measured by them & ordered. I'm not finding time. I've clocked close to 34000 Kms.

    Hi Guys,

I wanted to know if there is an updated BS4 CBR 250 on the pipeline this year for launch?

No, it doesn't, but our Indian cbr250 has a mood kill switch, which shuts off engine once in a while by flooding it with too much fuel just when you're stuck in slow moving traffic and have to use clutch often.

@Deathwing - the shims wear out early on some models. A CBR owner told me redlining causes shim wear faster, a theory I haven't really got more data on. However, like you, I've no shim noises at 42k kms.

Not sure but there is a motorbeam youtuber Faisal Khan, in his latest video he told CBR250 and CBR 150 BS4 shall be launch by Diwali..

I am not sure how much this is true as he said he got this info from inside sources from Honda and bike will get just the BS4 and AHO upgrade with new sticker job..

Not at all surprised if it's true, I foresaw this already, it's a bit of our price conscious audience and Hondas interest in selling commuters.
