I'm going to try AliExpress when shipping rates come back down to normal. They want USD 50 to ship it right now.

I've also been thinking of just replacing the ignition switch with a keyless ignition system (rfid fob), but they are just as expensive. I don't want to spend too much on this, this is my second bike & not used a lot. I will probably be selling it in a year or two.
aliexpress rates wont come doewn and dont even order for next 6 months. it will never come.

With current situation of CBR spares, I have decided to part ways with it in coming few months. I cant afford to keep it with no help from Honda.
Although selling it off is my last option, but I doesn't see any other way out.

Anyway, @ChasingDucksAndGeese : Do let us know once you order from AliExpress and how it goes.
whats the issue with lockset ?? aliexpress wont happne. also CBR is the most economical motorcycle to maintain in 250 cc category.

Makes sense, mine is a 2014 model. As far as I can remember , lockset is super expensive on the older models .

    Hope all are doing fine...

I am in my home town from March 17, 2020, my CBR is untouched for last 105 days (in Chennai).

And i feel my bad time due to current situation.

I don't know what to ask in this forum.

Is there any layman rules to follow before use a vehicle after a long gap, other than battery and Engine oil.

Is FI unit survive with 3 points of fuel & is tyres condition gone bad?

mine were parked for 8 months. dont worry but whenever you can get air filled, start the bike and ride around for 4-5 km for oil circulation and for Injectors not to clog.
if it will be parked for very long. drain all fuel and remove battery and store in a dry place.

Start off with basics. Starting the bike every four to five days is a good practice, especially during lockdown. Making sure the bike idles for a minimum of four minutes, and the throttle revved to 6k RPM twice to thrice, that's one way to keep the battery charged and the engine warmed up. Secondly, it's also good to check your tire pressure by pressing your tires, if you are able to dig your fingers inside the tire while pressing, you have low tire pressure, fill the tire with the recommended tire pressure. You can also overfill by four to five PSI so that, if the bike is going to sit idle, the pressure loss will be compensated.

The FI will be able to survive with three points of fuel without a problem. Make sure you refuel when the last fuel bar starts blinking, that is when you hit reserve. Hope it helps.

    Cheers!

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I've had a couple of quotes for the OEM key set (ignition + fuel tank + seat lock), that was in the Rs 12k to Rs 15k range. Does anyone know of cheaper alternatives?

Has anyone tried the approx USD 25 options on aliexpress? Like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001024701412.html or https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33037889255.html?

    Hi,

My CBR is 2013 model and it comes with the shorter ignition Key, and the price of that complete key set(Ignition key, fuel tank cap and the pillion seat lock) is around 6k(some 3 years back), if your's is shorter version key then dont think too much and go ahear for the replace.

    An additional info
my trusted CBR technician said that the Pre-2013 CBR's came with a chip in the ignition key set which cannot be bypassed and that is the reason the lock set was costly and the post 2013 model does not come with this chip and hence lesser cost. He also said that the older version ignition set comes with 3 wires where as mine came with 2 wires.
Even i had a issue once and I bypassed the ignition switch with a toggle switch and used the key for just fork locking the bike. this setup was kept for a week before replacing the set, only during this my CBR Technician said that if mine were 2011 model i might have risked burning some electronics by bypassing the switch.

    Hi VJ,

Are you sure about this, because when i had a weak battery and i was postponing the replacement and i suffered a coil failure. I was said that it might be due to the low voltage and high current logic. thought RR is not damaged but the Stator coil is burnt and i had to replace. i did do push start sometimes during this period.

At least in my riding experience and push starting, I haven't had a single complaint or a bust stator coil resulting from a push start. In fact, there is no correlation between the both. A stator coil burns out due to a variety of reasons primarily, age, heat and just about too much electrical load. Push starting is the least of them which affects them negatively. Basically you are just starting the bike, instead of a starter gear you are using the gearbox which turns the engine, which in another word is just a different gear doing the same work, so how can a simple egear cause an issue, got the point?

I have faced similar issues with the coil, I guess I overburdened the electricals or life just ended . Coming to the lockset, I guess your right, the 2013 n pre models had much more expensive locksets.
