Thanks. I too got the mileage figure of 34 when riding in 6th gear, but heat build-up did not bother me much though. Guess I was just too excited to notice it.. even now

I'll post the ownership review soon, riding has kept me busy. I received the KTM paddock from the showroom as a part of their compensation by paying 1k for it only. It doesn't require spools, fits directly in the swingarm and is adjustable

Just completed my first 100 Km with the bike today. I gave it a mixed kind of break in, i drove it hard a little, varied the RPM without running on a constant rpm for too long. Lots of gear shifting coupled with moderate braking. I did touch the red light a few times while driving especially in the first few kilometers. Maximum speed i have gone to is around 100.

It has a smoother response now and shifting is smooth too. I get around 28-30 kpl when commuting from my home to college as the traffic is low. In traffic where the bike is constantly in 1st and second gear it drops to around 20.

I am thinking of having the oil and filter changed now. Also there are a few issues like i can hear the chain slap against the swingarm, the rear left indicator is not seated properly and the engine gets damn hot almost 10-11 bars on the display.

12. Do not clean the chain with Diesel as this will damage the O-seals.[/FONT]

Can you please explain why diesel shouldnot be used to clean the chain? Because I think I read somewhere that its one of the best ways to clean the chain using diesel. And I've been doing that for quite a while. :0

I too have been cleaning the chain of Ninja with diesel for sometime now. I always thought kerosene and petrol were more penetrative than diesel. Do elaborate.

Even I had lots of questions/doubts regarding this point. But I have been looking over the INTERNET quiet a few times on this aspect. So when in doubt, play safe. So I always used chain spray cleaner.

All through my search/research I have seen that every one uses kerosene. See the links below.

Apart from this, I have seen quite a few people include service centers applying the cleaning and lubing agents in improper way. They should be always sprayed into the chain. That is near the bottom end of the sprocket. Many people spray on the top of the chain behind the rear sprocket. This will usually fly away once you are on drive.

O-Rings act as seals to prevent the lubing inside them to escape. So primary part of maintaining the chain is cleaning it properly.

As you pointed out already, Diesel penetrates/damages the O-Rings and leading to damage of lube inside the O-Rings.

But this is still questionable, I will update here when I have concrete information on this.

I changed my 390's oil at 300kms the oil was a bit dirty and when I removed the stainer( stainer in a metal mesh like tube found inside when you open the drain nut) there were a lot of metal partials that had accumulated on it,surprisingly there were quite a bit. So that's why it's better to change the oil early to avoid the metal partials going back in the engine

If I am not wrong the strainer is magnetized or equipped with magnet, so that any metal debris will stick to it. So there is less chance of the metal parts going back inside. But how ever, by changing the oil and oil filter you are giving more fresh air for engine to work on.

A little correction, I think the Duke has X-ring chain. Diesel & kerosene are fine as they are one of the cheapest & best degreaser available, just clean & dry them up before lubing.

Nopes, it is a O-Ring chain.
