  • Hi

great to find a topic on the Fiero's...

I own a 2003 suzuki fiero too. Bought it solely for motocross purpose. The engine was not in good shape but still served my purpose. Then one fine day I got the engine done. Parts were a bit difficult to find but still got it sourced from different people. Now its running pretty well. Inspite of me being 6ft tall, still I find the fiero so comfortable in zipping through the traffic. Having owned the Pulsars, the Bullets and the ZMA, this pocket is a rocket in the truest of the sense. I am in love with the machine.

And lastly, thank you guys for sharing all your experiences with the fiero family. God bless. Ride safe.

as a replacement to our current ones..
How else does a shunt regulator works ?Even in three phase circuits ground reference is a must, otherwise there is no Positive or Negative Right ?and I have no knowledge of Three Phase generator in 2 wheelers stator design. If you send me the actual winding configuration in circuit form then i can give my opinion on it....and also clarify if it is Star or Delta configuration.
As for higher capacity RR units people are using the APE three wheeler RR unit from the Original manufacturer priced around Rs.1,100/-.with both wires from stator coil going to the rr unit and the entire bike is turned to DC.

      • The three phase coils in two wheelers are used by Pulsar 220, Karizma, R15 etc etc.
even Bullets use 3 phase, all of them are Star configuration as far as i know.

Besides I am running that APE RR which is single phase, and it works ONLY in full wave and doesn't work with grounding...

i was asking that weather we get 2 phase rr units which works on our stock coil configuration, which allows higher amps ?

as a personal experience with single phase stator output, its good at higher rpms, while 3 phase is good everywhere...
i can convert my stator into 3 phase, but it needs no. of poles to be multiples of 3, min of 9 poles, ever rtr has 8 so it cannot be done...

3 phase charging systems are the best in the world, i didn't know that grounding is required for 3 phase too, as it can generate good output even at lower rpms.

the issue is not only the coil and the pattern or the RR unit, its the magnet power too.
RX100 has a single pole in its stator, but the magnet is soo powerful that it can run 100w bulb in AC without any issues, in our bike's 7 poles itself, doing this is a difficult task, thanks to the magnet...
Pulsar series magnets are even worse...

i don't understand as why do these company people make 2 phase AC/DC configuration in the first place, why can't they be sinple and go for either single phase or 3 phase with all DC configuration as 99% of the vehicles in the world follow !!

You are welcome to post your experiences with the engine work or the riding experience vis-a-vis other bikes you've owned.

Yes i know why you chose the fiero for motocross purpose. It has been winning in motocross and on road races too since it was introduced in 2001 and competing with 2 strokes and beating them in rallies and races. In fact fiero was being used by the TVS racing team even when Apache 150 was here,as fiero had better top-end and was quicker around the racing track.

Keep posting on this thread. If there's nothing going on then at least we'll be discussing the other much needed accessory,girls/women.

btw can u give me more info on 180 bore kit
Sure, as psr mentioned the entire RTR 180 bore kit costs 2,500 Rs. It is a direct fit and you would need to match the head with the bore of the RTR,then put the cam chain tensioner of the RTR180 too and that's it.

Nanotech has done precisely that except the matching of the head with the bore.

Then your bike will become 180cc and you would need to buy the bigger carb too.Though it's not a must. For ex i have converted my bike to 200 cc by putting a karizma piston and sleeve and yet my bike's still running well with the stock carb.

Converting your bike to a 200 will need some work ,so you'd better go for the RTR 180 bore kit.

Winter feels good here, Cold nights, chilling mornings but warm sunny afternoons with clear blue skies .... just great for weekend afternoon biking in the winding hilly terrain. It's good to warm-up ... get revving and hit the powerband in the evenings. .

here is my plug ... I know it's not CR7E ... searched a few shops and could not find it... had to do with this one. will have to wait a bit longer according to the shopkeeper.

That is an hotter plug than stock ,so it will obviously self clean and that's why the plug is whiter in color.

Make the A/F a bit richer than what is now and your engine is fine bro! no need to worry.

Coming back to the "diva" in question she really was one.She looked like a clone of Meenakshi Sheshadri the yester year actress. So i did weather the storm after my bike's shenanigans with her as you know the weather is always beautiful immediately after the storm.

If Pulsar uses 3 phase stator then you can buy the stator to try in your bike...you may have to drill fresh holes in stator for fixing ...I think you will have to change the rotor also for magnets to coincide with the coils...

                  • @NANOtech

No need to open up anything to put a new oil seal for the oil leaking from the sprocket shaft(output shaft),it's a simple job.

So if you are used to oil leaking from engine-head and from the bore's packing area ,then there's no need to open up the engine or anything for now.Just keep topping up with oil and it should be okay.

I know it is best to use stock plug NGK CR7E, which more like what Nano has posted. You said my plug is hotter than stock. I remember you said something about going for a colder plug than stock. Which would you prefer ... Stock / Colder or Hotter???

I'm just wondering how the plug I have compares to CR7E in terms of firing and other aspects. The plug I posted is NGK CR7E-PE or something ... belongs to Honda Shine.

Will tune AFR a bit richer tomorrow morning... a quarter of a revolution or a bit more.

                      .........................

Well, there's a calm before the storm... and after the storm has passed, everything looks clean and beautiful. There is something mysterious and intriguing about storms. Add a diva in the picture and the story will definitely have a happy ending.

The plug on your bike is hot because it has a protruding center electrode were as stock's sits flush.

This wouldn't fit my bike sir, as the cover is smaller to do so..
besides i already have a Yamaha TX 500's stator which is three phase, what i have noticed is that even if we somehow plonk say a 3 phase stator smaller than the one that you've put up in the link, like say a Kinetic Blaze's or the R15's or the FZ's, it still wouldn't give desirable results....

the TX500 has 21 poles, so far its the best that I've seen in flesh, and the problem is that the pulse generator will not function as the magnet doesn't have that something extra, a lump of metal attached on the top of the rotor magnet for the pulse generator to find, which when rotates, denotes the pulse generator that the rotation is made.

3 phase magnets DO NOT have that pulse generation method AFAIK, atleast Yamaha one doesn't, there could be some other method for pulse.
i have no idea about it....

Besides, i just got Vikas's fiero converted to Full DC, BY CHANGING THE STATOR to that of a unicorn, thus he's now running 8 poles instead of 7, with an 18 guage wire, and the voltage at higher amps is 13.9 (with load), which is really good for 18 guage...
Amps should be around 10 AFAIK, lets see...
he didn't check the amps though, we'll check it soon.

                          @ gixxer

buddy, i am used to OIL leaks from all of the places on the bike, be it Forks, engine head, tappet bolts, block, those pipes which flow oil, sprocket, Disk brake's master cylinder, you name it....
                          I've seen it all

i feel i might have had a defective bike because its been there from DAY 1

                          @ all

Notice my spark plug pic with flash in the previous post of mine, if you see it carefully, you'll notice small maybe metal pieces, detonations or something like that (i don't know what to call it)...
                          is that an issue ?
Giving a lot to a fiero.

So you already have the stator you need Even in Pulsar ,the 220 stator is not straight fit,for lesser Pulsars,as an upgrade. If you have 9 poles with present rotor it will be ideal.
Regarding the Pulse coil pickup you can try sticking an additional piece of magnet at the correct position on the outer side of rotor ,for the trigger pulse...in Fi bikes there will be multiple magnets at the outer of rotor for the injector pulses. The theoritical advantage of the 3 phase is 66 %(over single phase) but in practise it is roughly 25 % only...which i think is not worth the bother ,....given the complications associated with it.
You are having pre-ignition,and detonation. If you see my earlier post I had requested you to add one more gasket to bring the compression down......esp., note the tip of the ground electrode...it looks as though some one had scrapped it clean.
Soon you will have a hole on top of the Piston.

The same happened to my bike, when I went for a trip 15 days back, the engine was knocking quite a lot, since I was on a long trip, for the first time used the in ear-canal buds, due to which I could not hear the knocking sounds, as I covered some 70 odd kms, the knocking got very audible, there was severe loss of power, the bike refused to cross even 60 and finally gave in, I tried kicking but there was no compression at all, I checked to see if oil was present, to my shock, I could see smoke coming out of it, after a few frantic calls to my mech, we towed the bike to the next town and got it checked, too many issues, valves were tight, the valves had hit the piston top, the piston rings had melted . Finally decided to send the bike back to Bangalore through VRL. I and my friend came back to bangalore, parked his bike and took the car for the rest of the trip.
Now I have put the A180 bore on the bike, new valves, obviously new gasket too, doing running in, completed 300 kms, need to do the next 200 asap, it is a nightmare to drive below 60.
