The Crank Gear,The Step down Gear, and the SS motor are not present in the present picture...So if your motor is also like this,.you will need these components, along with the heavy duty relay, thumb switch, and associated wiring.

Gixxer is the person to give correct answer...

So it needs to be kept in the power-band always, either by revving or by swapping gears. You do that and you won't face any issues with valve guides or seals.

I am no doctor man, i learn't these things from the humble mech i took you to that day. Another thing ,de-carbonizing of his engine will be done at lathe and by the mech .You are right about that.

Exactly! pictures are always worth more than a thousand words!!
M carb still has a problem and it keeps missing. so as a last resort before i buy a new carb, my mech suggested we dismantle the carb completely and boil all the metal parts and refit and try our luck. What do you say guys?

If you are trying to clean the carb, then soak the individual parts in Acetone and then clean it with a brush.Do not get Acetone on your skin as it is a known Carcinogen(causing cancer).Wear latex(surgical)gloves when you work....available from the pharmacist.Work in a well ventilated or open space.

Great. Will check with the mech!!! What will Acetone do? what about the plastic float and the rubber parts?

I guess you can,but you mite have to change the wiring harness, add a good heavy duty relay(as said by psr),change the switch gear.Maybe you can see how the apaches set up is?

Gixxer can shed some light on this.

                  Won't the carb cleaner help?

It will but it is a spray, meant for carbs with butterfly throttle..You can't soak parts in it,which is what ullal had asked for....and some old coatings will never go away till they are soaked in solvents and cleaned....Paint thinner is another alternate to Acetone.

Even petrol mixed with Kerosene is used safely for carb soaking and cleaning. This is slightly more safe...please remember all hydrocarbons...petrol,Kerosene,Diesel are all carcinogen and you have to guard yourself....don't get splashed with it(you should wash the place with soap and water) or inhale it's fumes....

ok,coming back to the self starter issue, are the self starters of the a-150,160 and 180 the same. Will the a-150s self starter work properly for the a-180.In nanos case if he does go for the a150 starter, can it crank up the engine owing to the higher compression?

Theoretically it will.A self starter always has more than required torque...and looking at a Apache 150/RTR160/180,I do not find any part change mentioned for the SS.

You are right about the parts and the torque too.But let me put it like this ,i had thought about it before and i dropped the idea. The reason, at least in my bike's case is ,the compression increase can be felt while kick starting the bike itself,i mean in comparison to a stock RTR 180 itself my bike's super hard to kick and i have serious doubts about whether the starter motor can manage it. If it does ,then i have serious doubts about how long it'll last. That's why the idea never got beyond that stage.

I don't know how high the compression is on nano's bike ,so it has to be his call.

Fitting it? i guess it can be done,if the mech is knowledgeable .But if nano finds a similar guy, as the lathe guy who discouraged the head work to do this job. Then it's likely it'll end up in trouble too.

similar to what i am having doubts on as his engine isnt purely or entirely a 180,so compression mite either be less or more than a normal 180.If its on the higher side, the motor wont last much. Moreover u mite either end up with slower cranking speeds(owing to higher comp) or higher cranking speed(in case of lower comp). If the three apaches have different starters selecting the right one will be a dilemma. Moreover as the apache has a 5 speed tranny and the fiero being a 4 speeder, the crankcase might have been altered, which needs to checked too.

@psr-if thats the case then fitting the starter should be a walk in the park.

The change in tranny is within the confines of the same crank case....if it was any different you won't be able to fit the 180 head at all as a straight fit on the Fiero. The 180 SS will fit and can start the engine..With higher Compression it will simply take more current to start..If the bike starts normally, and the starter is not held on for long, there will be no damage to the starter.....
The battery must be upgraded to higher amperes.

In theory it is possible...In Practice it may throw up surprises
