Sorry for the late reply, since i was in the mood of changing my company.

And one reason my mechanic says is that if swing arm length is increased, there is chance of teh suspension hitting the side panel and making odd noises while thrown into a pit. What do you say for this.
ya sure we have to think.

            • Report on Synthetic oil, additives, fuel, Iridium plug

              1. Synthetic oil
Observation: At the 47.5K kms.service prior to the 50K service, I had filled in Petronas 4T 5000 fullly synthetic 10w40 engine oil. It didn't suit her-it was drained out at 50K kms.completely black&missing about 2-300ml. So at the 50K kms.service, I asked him to drain out the so called fully synthetic oil&fill in the regular TVS Tru4 mineral. Checked after 1K kms.&it is doing fine.
Recommendation: TVS Tru4 suits it best!

              2. Bardahl engine oil additive
Observation: Filled alongwith oil change, its a bit early to comment, but I have never seen the engine oil with zero discoloration at 1K kms.
              Recommendation: Can use.

              3. Iftex petrol additive:
Observation: Something to feel happy&also little surprised-my Fiero F2 gave me 5 kmpl more-after almost 6 years by using Iftex petrol additives!
It says cleans carburettor, injectors, reduces carbon deposits&improves cold starts, pickup&mileage.
I was laughing at it-how can such a small thing do so much, but now I'm really feeling the difference.
it says 1 ml.per litre of petrol, so I put one sachet (5ml) for 6 lts. (300Rs.) last time no change, but this time I found it ran 300kms.for 6 lts.when it used to run only 270kms. earlier!
              Recommendation: Must use.

              4. Premium fuels
Observation: For those who think it would be better to use premium fuel, as that contains premixed additives, I tried using Extra Premium petrol for my Ghodi, but it didn't suit her-pet kharab ho gaya-engine was pinging a lot&sparkplug had a lot of deposits too.
Recommendation: Not recommended for engines with CR<10.0:1

              5. NGK Iridium
Observation: Cold starts have significantly improved, firing is even. I don't know whether that could have even happened coz the old spark was at the end of its life. Maybe a new conventional plug would have also given me the same effect, but I somehow don't trust the Champion brand which the SVC is using, since they don't get NGK regular ones, which are stock. When I went to look for NGK conventional, I got tempted by the Iridium&moreover the shopkeeper also said it lasts much longer than regular ones. I am happy coz my bike starts with a single kick even if left idle for a week!
Recommendation: Can use, if budget permits. Available for all vehicles, even Scooty Pep!

Maybe discussion of these things is a bit too late for my bike, but neverthless if its showing some results with these things after 50.5K kms., that means the engine is in good condition&thats what made me happy!

My Fiero has a RTR 160's swing arm + TVS Star City shocks and running on stock sized tyre (3.00X18) touches no where. Not even with a heavy pillion. The star city shocks, I know are a weak point in an otherwise brilliant suspension setup. They are pretty soft and do bottom out on not so smooth roads with a pillion on board. However, when single, they feel right and have longer travel than stock ones. Maybe thats the reason the tyre does not touch the Panel. Not sure. You could try the RTR shocks.

Wow, thats a good lab test. I do use Premium fuel now. I for some reason never faced Cold Start issues, not even at 4am, peak Delhi winter. Yeh, that was my shift time entire December.

BTW, are you back in Hyderbad?

Your bike with all the gene surgeries can easily take it bro. Mine is bone stock.

Mine also never had a cold start issue per se, it would start with a single kick then also-I haven't used the choke more than once or twice in the last 6 years-that was only when it was idle for almost a month! Just that it would start&not continue to idle, even though the idling RPM was set perfectly. With the Iridium, it starts&continues to idle, maybe that would have happened even with a stock conventional plug. But the difference in firing is clear.

Yes, I'm back in Hyderabad-had been to the Planet DSG&ProBiker store also just to see. Will tell you more about it when we talk.

                    • Bought a Suzuki Fiero F2

                      HI,

                      This is my first post.

Wanted to buy a new bike but becoz of budget, thought of waiiting for another year or so.

So I settled for 2004 October Fiero F2, for 13K and bike looks o.k. with no damage and paint just looks new.

But there is leak from engine head and gear shaft side.

there is missing and no pickup at all

Gave for full serviicing may cost 2K to 3K

My question is there valve is beating and the timing chain has to be replaced - this is what the service guy told

But this fellow told he will search for himself but if he doesn't get then I have to buy

Please tell me - can I get this part easily and what would be the cost of it.

                      Thanks

I will post the pics of oil leakage today itself

                      Thanks

                      Pls reply

                      • well since u must be knowing, this bike has been discontinued ever since the launch of the apache 150 (3yrs ago or so..). so part availability is STILL NOT A ISSUE. i myself have a 03'F2 wid disc brakes. regarding the body i have changed the front dome twice, the panels on either side of the fuel tank twice or may be thrice!!! i havent yet faced any issue while buying the parts. parts r always available. comin to the engine, the leakeges which u mentioned r common probs with any bike. i just needs a few OIL SEAL to be changed which again is not an issue.

Now if in case some parts (body or engine) r not available wit the service centre or even their respective godowns, u can always order it from the company. ur service center manager will do watever is required. they just need ur chassis num, engine num, date of purchase. with these information the manager wil fax it to the company and within a week u would get ur parts.

And plz dont give ur bike to any local mechanics. alwayz go to the AUTHORISED TVS SERVICE CENTER. the above mentioned pts r applicable only with the authorised service centers. dont worry about the parts.

                        Comment

                        • and one more thing, searching of parts is NOT UR PROBLEM, ITS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHORISED SERVICE CENTER PEOPLE. BTW where do u stay?

                          • More details and pics

                            Dear Tintin

Yes, I bought the chain timing from TVS service Centre, here in Cochin, Kerala, and it costed me 0.73k as written in the bill AKA "chain comp camshaft drive"

I asked those guys about the availability of parts and they said except few body parts, all engine parts are available.

I gave this bike to my friend's mechanic who is trustworthy and economic and I was worried if I give to SC guys how much they will rob from me.

I don't know any idea about 4 stroke babes. Few years ago I had 2-stroke Max 100 R and after selling it of and coming to this place, I used to ride Unicorn from office source.

Please tell me about the chain timing in the head, how did that thing got spoiled and what is its real purpose? and how will it change my bikes progress?

I am gonna post few oil leaks pics from head and gear shaft and please do comment about that.

Don't know how much will cost to prepare my babe may be 3-4k.

But I need pucca condition and that is what I told with that guy.

That guy will give me babe only by Tuesday evening because he told me that he's gonna do something witht he head in some other place and I don't know what it meant.

The person who sold me this bike was 40 year old executive and he told he never ripped it but how come all these work has come and he claims that the bike ran only 35k kms.

                            Thanks

More updates and your help to follow

                            • the part which u mentioned is called the double overhead camshaft, whose purpose is to control the openin and closure of the valves inside the cylinder (for intake and exhaust).in short its called (DOHC). may be during the usage wid the previous owner the valves and the related mechanisms wern't functioning properly. As u mentioned in ur 1st post, ur bike was losing on pick up, well i suspect that there r some compression problems which again r related to the valves and related mechanism!! well since u have already given ur bike get the job done, but in future plz visit the ASC for ur servicing and other problems if any. make sure the parts the mech is gonna install r original TVS parts. my bike has crossed 75k and is in its 7th yr. till now no such issues wid the camshaft or anything.. i mean i havent yet opened up the engine for any work!

comin to the pics u posted,

the left pic- thats not an oil leak. its the oil that comes out when u oil the chain, because there is a small sproket inside that silver plastic cover which is giving out the oil due to high speed rotations. dont worry. on washing it will go off.

the right pic - that leakage around the black circular rubber is also common and happens over the period of time. see if ur local mech has that rubber which has to be changed and also some packing r required. i had done that job from the ASC about 2 yrs back. its still perfect. no leakage!! it would hardly cost u 60-70 RS. but u have to remove the head and thus the tank!! and when the mechanic is doin the jog tell him to de carbonise the head portion and also check the functioning of the tappets. if needed get them tightned!!
