    • @Shreeni

Thanks,i'll call em up and then there's a bullet mech near my house,i'll ask him about the carbs too, let's see this casual inquiry and your price bomb might solve the issue.Cuse i am sick and tired of complicated carbs,i'll take a shot at a simpler one ,even though flat slide or vm ones might give flat spots,HELL a flat spot is any day better than missing!!

      • Just a doubt. Whenever you changed the main jets of carb, did you change the pilot and needle jet accordingly.

Main jets come into picture very late, your pilot and needle plays first.

Pilots are kept stock in most tuning works only the main and maybe the needle is changed .I agree pilots need to be played around too,but more than that it's the needle jet/jet needle which plays a important role.My carb has issues with mid range and the ones we saw yesterday had initial issues. The prob is mechs are not ready to break their heads with jet needle and pilots. Then again pilot jets are very hard to come by,maybe available as minor tuning kits.

Get the stock jets give to lathe who have precision laser drillers and get drilled to required size. Or in simple use a wire and widen the hole and make her scream.

Update - New Bullets use BS29.

If you are going for flat slide carb don't go for any carb below 28 mm Venturi. You need the flow with the increased CC and again going for a smaller Venturi will choke your bike at top end....just my thought.

That's ruled out,the bullet mech told that the slide will vibrate and that it won't last more than 3 months on my bike.He said that it's because of higher RPM.Then i went to ZEN and Mr Murthy told me that they had tried those combinations on the fieros and that they never perform as well as a CV carb on fieros.

Yeah looks like that's the only alternative left now to get the pilot sizes increased, because due to the mech's playing around with the setting yesterday ,the CO machine tuning is gone.Twenty minutes ago, when i was trying to start the bike ,the carb was blown clean off the manifold with a loud bang. The carb blow out problem is back once again!!

                • @abhilashabhi: I think Anand is right-you can go in for a brand new set as your bike has not run much.

@gixxer_junkie_m: I suggest a brand new Pulsar carb with stock Fiero jets!

Yeah, pulsar carb's are the only options as they are the cheapest. If bajaj wasn't here god knows what we'd have to do for carbs

The stock jets of the fiero won't do,the engine heats up real quick and it has so much compression that it blows the carb right off the manifold. This problem has one easy solution and that is to get the carb tuned on a CO machine,i mean once the CO machine tuning is done properly, there won't be any increase in idling or it won't need bigger pilots as well.

                    • My bike's at Zen for 2 weeks now and should be ready today. Phew !!!

My battery is dead and i've been riding all these years without replacing it. The mechanic from Zen called and asked me to replace it saying that the CDI will get damaged if the bike is used like this.

Any words of wisdom / advice?

I've learnt to ride without a horn and can actually ride pretty well without honking. My 2 cents towards curbing noise pollution.

@Anand - heard you dropped by at Zen yesterday. Any updates?

Well the outcome is nil, Gixxer's bike has missing in Mid range in BS26 carb with 115 main Jet now & to overcome this problem he was trying to put a bigger carb & do jetting to suit his requirement.

We tried the BS29 carb yesterday evening & with this carb on 110 Main jet, the missing seems to coming in Initial revs itself & then we tried swapping the carb of mine to his to check if it is seriously Jetting problem & to our surprise his bike revved the nuts of it in all the RPM range without any missing what so ever.

After this several thoughts ran over our mind, we thought of buying the BS29 carb & changing pilot Jets to get rid of missing in Initital revs & on the other hand Gixxer was pissed off due to this & was thinking of going in for a new one Instead of taking chances with used ones.

The mech was afraid of taking any chacne of Jetting, he said he wil have to open the engine head & check it thoroughly & all , but after the bike picked up good without missing in stock set up, he changed his diaologue saying sir get me full stock set up & I will get done the tuning for you.

Now the ball is in Gixxer's court, Either we can buy the BS29 carb & do some trial & error with pilot jets or go for a brand new one from bajaj showroom.
Yesterday at ZEN Mr Murthy asked the mech to remove the smaller diaphragm from the carb, which comes only on fiero carbs and you know what happened? the bike started missing in initial revs too as well as in mid-range.He told me that's because of A/F becoming rich!! Curiously enough the same thing happened with the used 29mm carb and the mech chickened out of jetting ,were as it might have been just a rich pilot jet!!
That small diaphragm is very important for mileage and if it gets torn the carb will start acting strange. My girl's carb's smaller diaphragm is ok

Yeah Mr Murthy was saying that they hadn't found the stock cam yet and the local cam on your bike has wrong profiles which makes the bike's performance go down.He also told me that they are looking for the stock carb screws and if they can't find it.Then he plans to check pulsar ones to see if it has the same taper.

It seems you told him that you will run the bike with the local cam itself.

I saw your bike and it's cylinder had been re-bored.He told me that the piston had seized due to lack of oil.

Next time around go for a used RTR head itself for 1000 bucks and put a RTR bore. Then all your problems will be solved.
That's the reason why i keep telling guys here to go for RTR parts as ,going for stock ones is a costly and painstakingly long process.

No no. The local cam's gonna get shoved up my ex-mech's backside. Its definitely not gonna run on my fiero.

The stock spec cam was not available hence the delay. Just got a call informing that the cam had arrived and the bike will be ready by evening.

I was constantly in touch with Mr. Murthy and the only reason the bike's been in the shop so long is due to the unavailability of the stock cam. I was told about this on day1 itself and i asked for a stock cam. I was apprehensive of reboring the engine but there was no other go

I asked Mr. Murthy about this and he mentioned that the head also needs to be swapped with the RTR one and costs 8k.

Anyway, please advise on the battery guys. Do i have to get a new one or can i run with the dead one itself? I really dont need a new battery but if its gonna cause problems and damage the CDI etc. i have no choice, right?

Well, they are a authorized service center you can't expect them to advise you on going for a used RTR head

Coming to the battery, get the basic stock 2.5 ah one,go for the cheapest one available.
Lot's of guys ,just like you have ridden their fieros without battery, including me .I've done it for close to 2 years without any damage to CDI or any of the electricals. But better get a basic battery to be on the safer side.
