  • hi guys I need some help
have the 2001 model suzuki fiero.
off lately the bike gets very rough in the afternoons
and is silky smooth during evenings.
this time during servicing I wasn't in town and my mech picked her up and dropped her back .

could this be due to engine oil alone or are there any other factors.
also engine oil wise , which oil do you recommend.i never used to bother with them grades earlier( I am only 26 posts old @xbhp).
PS: even my TBTS has the same problem ( OT )
You can only go as fast as you can brake!

Fuel quality might be the reason.. Try different fuel stations.. Else your CDI is having trouble to bear the heat.. Shift your cdi from under your tank to under your seat..
Regarding your TB, check your oil.. TB responds a lot to oil changes.. DO NOT use semi/synthetic oil.. Any 15-50 mineral oil will do great..I'm using Mobil1 20-50 and all is well for my TB..

If your fiero is running in anything other than kokusan Denki CDI, then you'll have a lot of problems... Get the original one or convert it to tci..

my fiero is a complete MX bike.. I don't know much abt it on the streets.. ask gixxer for more street details..

              • projectile...be cautious. dont every keep the bike clean especially silencer. leave it as soiled .

since orginal silencer with (suzuki impression) are not avilable at market there was some demand.

yup same strategy here! I checked around seems these suzuki stamped ones don't have glass wool and don't rust, hence the demand .( source : my mech).

The fiero's silencer is a megaphonic type,in other words,if you remove the baffle it's a straight through pipe with a expansion chamber. It's well built and gives better performance.

The CDI was made by KOKUSAN DENKI which is a subsidiary of MITSUBISHI electricals. Then TVS electricals entered into a JV with them to form the INDIA NIPPON electricals which later supplied the CDI's.So both are good and quality is second to none and the present RTR's TCI IDI are also from the same company.
Now,the original fiero CDI costs something like 3 to 4k and i doubt the authenticity of the one put by your mech. For the same money you could have gotten the TCI of the RTR,that too from the showroom itself.

Coming to your refinement issues,i think it has to do with the carb setting and i'm sure it's tuned to run lean. The symptoms you mentioned about are indicative of the same.

Coming to the oil bit,get either MOTUL or Gulf and 20W40 should do just fine.Don't forget to change the oil filter.

should I buy rtr 150 cdi from showroom? cause I doubt if I can even recognize an original in a local shop ( don't want to get ripped off)
I am planning a new paint job and a few minor mods next month ( tax time this month).
                      1.get dents removed from tank
2.get a new set of all plastic
3.change brake drums( if needed)( brakes horrible with new pads too)
                      4.get a split seat
5.good tire. and the tire hugging mudgaurd( p135).
6.paint all the silver area either dark pewter grey or black.
7.go back to original fiero headlight ( got a yezdi one now )
not very sure about the big bore kit though.

then finally retire my steed for occasional use.
                      120k on odo .

My advise to you would be,just go for the RTR180 TCI(color coded and it's green in color)=800 bucks + RTR180 IDI coil = 350 bucks from the showroom.
If you have any engine works,i can give you the phone number of Mr Murthy of ZEN Shakti TVS or Rajesh/Jagadish(worked at ZEN TVS and Ten10 racing team). They are the best guys for modification jobs, putting RTR cylinder etc that is.

thanks a lot buddy !!, I used to visit zen motors very often when I had a second hand shogun, all my buddies got shoguns, after 2 weeks of bookings they told me shogun is stoppef and hence I should opt for fiero or pay 20k extra as shoguns were selling at a premium, since I could nt convince my dad for for addditional 20k , I settled for fiero from another showroom near my place.was mighty pissed at my fiero for not being a shogun, ill treated her for good many years, in the end though she out lasted any shogun my friends got , guess kinda got lucky.

Suzuki rocks buddy.. Get yours converted to TCI.. But if u get the original Kokusan Denki from any used bike, its a better choice.. I personally feel it has better midrange than the TCI setup.. (I'm using TCI setup)..

my mech tells me that they sell fiero cdi at the hosur tvs plant.
does anyone have any experience buying from there ? rather do they even have something like a factory outlet ?
                              insights appreciated .

                              • I was busy reading thru all pages of this thread and was pleasantly surprised at the conclusion that fieros were over engineered. just the other day I found myself trying to justify the price of ktm duke with arguments like, ,11 years ago I paid for fiero around 52k , after factoring in inflation and blah blah for the same reliability and build quality guess 1.4L is Ok.

my dad's reply - japanese and russian over engineered! european , fit for purpose.!
with the design life being 1L km guess japanese tech lasts longer. btw I lied earlier my odo is 84k over 1 L km.
to think that my stock bore lasted 1.3L km ! bludy this is a beast!
                                cheers,!
