If porting had been done then you would have had good mid range and even better top-end.That ofcourse depending on how well the porting is done.Porting will also exploit the bigger carb's potential well.
For example my bike has stock carb and the initial and mid range was so strong that i had to increase the front sprocket size to that of a 14 teeth one when stock front sprocket of fiero is 13 and still after making the gearing tall my bike feels like rx135 when it has the stock 97.5 main jet of the fiero.

    • thanks gixxer.

if you would have got a hang of BS32, i would have gone for it, but i don't wish to test it..
hence I'll buy the BS29 carb today itself.

no jetting is needed so it would be just plug and play..

      now lets come to exhaust...

i don't wish to increase the loudness of the exhaust..
i want it low, and why do we need to cut it and weld it?
can't we remove those screws and do the same?

i personally don't like free flow exhausts.
if its very much necessary, I'll go for the entire silencer itself...
but i repeat, i don't WISH to alter the silencer..

      @ chief..

      spark plug !!!
well i never even thought about it.
but the good part is that CR7E is apache's plug, as well as fiero's plug, so it will be okay...

that damm carb isn't starting my bike...

and the food at your place is AWESOME, i will come next time just for lunch ...

        @ all

guys you have no idea how good vishal rides..
he's fast and controlled, however he needs better brakes, but i am a bit unhappy with his very high usage of DUAL HORNS..

I'll keep updates going, maybe everyone will understand better.
Oh come on dude. We are here to help each other & that is what I did. After seeing all these things done on your bike, now even I am tempted for this setup. But I will have to also change my brake setup for better braking, so the cost will be too high . So sticking to the current setup & still making others .

You are welcome anytime yaar for the Lunch or Dinner.

Thanks for the compliments on the ride. But I am really addicted to dual horns. May be its only because, I ride on highways and those truckies dont give way without honking. Sorry about that. Will try to minimize the use.

BS29 is available with Atul Scooters with a price tag of Rs.3700/-. Dont know about Bajaj. I dont understand one thing here is, TVS parts are costlier than Bajaj even though they are manufactured by the same company who gives parts to both.

Regarding the exhaust. You are aware that you have a high power mill & that extra gases would be needed to be thrown out of the engine for better performance. I understand you are against Freeflow exahust because of the noise they produce. You can try removing the catcon from the exhaust & see the difference. Else I no a silencer expert also who can help us on this. But for that you need to come here again my friend.

Ok now that you have seen me riding. What do you feel I should go with, TBTS or ZMA R?

Keep riding & enjoy the breeze....

        • I paid about 4000 INR for the BS26 last year in a border town in India. Kinda expensive. But... did not feel the difference then .... well now that I have a new piston with a re-bore and a new set of chain sprockets, I feel the difference for the better with much better mileage.

          • @ vishal

the carb at TVS is expensive..
damm how do you get such experts??
can i just open those 3 screws and get rid of the catalytic converter??

i am a bit dodgy about welding part..
if i have to do it, vishal is the man who'll have to help me out..

i am sure if i pop up next weekend at your place, your family will STRANGLE me..

            coming back..

for comfort specially for your wife, go for TBTS..
but for riding, the way you do it, i would still recommend a ZMA-R..

but TBTS will vibe pretty much..
besides i know you are more of a speed junkie, so still ZMA has an upper hand..

            TBTS gives 28Nm @ 4000rpm
and ZMA gives 18.35 Nm @ 6000 rpm

so technically, TBTS is miles ahead in power, but since it is a very low revving engine, it will need more gear shifts.

if you honestly consider a massive power upgrade, and something different than all those 10 years of fiero riding, go for TBTS.

if you still want a similar but more advanced and again very comfortable bike, go for ZMA, the choice is yours..

if i was at your place and had money, i would have gone for TBTS, as I've ridden a bullet and these bikes are in the class of its own..

but personally for me, 47kg of body weight and throw around riding style, makes me stay away from those..

you ride much smoother, so go in for TBTS if you need something different again...

            @ chief..

dude 4 grand for the CARB ????
even the 180 upgrade costs less..

            i am happy with bajaj's BS29 carb...
I'll check for the price today itself...

            @ vishal and gixxer

shall i go in for BS32 carb ???
i am just asking as it shouldn't be like i buy it now and later crib that something better could have been bought !!
of a handy dandy tried and tested BS29 !!

            • Well almost 10 years back, I paid 6500 INR for the Fiero... so you see bikes / vehicles are expensive here and maintianing them with the right spares are even harder. I am just wondering,... if I should ever go for the 180 setup, I might not find the experts needed to do a decent job here. I will have to ask around and look for good, experienced mechs and knowledgeable lathe operators. Now with your inputs, I can atleast say what I want out of my bike.

              Cheers

see the process has to be understood by you..
and you need to make the mechs work on it..

when i was installing DUAL hid's on a puny fiero, even no 1 here at xBHP were confident weather it will work right or not..
but i made mechs work on did, grabbed enough knowledge to do the same, a lot of efforts too.
finally everything paid off very well.

things need to be done right, if you know the right way, everything is possible...

if you want to opt for a 180cc.
you can do it much much cheaper..
you don't even need to buy the block.

you can just get the current block bored to 62.5mm
and buy a RTR's piston, rings and pin.
match the inlet and outlet grooves..
                and you are done !!!!

jetting is a different story.. but again doesn't cost much.

the total cost would be arr 1500 including everything...

the reason i bought the block is because my block was damaged.
it didn't fit right, hence i had to opt for a new block, so i went in for 180..

see all's easy when its done.
previously converting the bike to FULL DC was a herculean task.
today its a piece of cake,
see gixxer, he has done these stuff soo well that its again a piece of cake for him..

and yes, it would be good if you wait until my run-in is finished..
i am good in criticizing anyways
                you'll get the right picture..

Buy it from bajaj ,interestingly enough the same carb costs something like 6 or 7k at enfield Food for thought isn't it for prospective enfield buyers?

The block of fiero can't be bored to such huge sizes For that matter no bike's bore can.Trust me 5mm is huge in super bike terminology too.So what was done with my bike was ,they bore out the block and put a new sleeve. This costs almost the same as buying a new RTR180 bore kit.

Trust me nano buddyIf you had gone for porting and free flow exhaust ,it would have done justice to your big bore block. For now it would be feeling suffocated by the restriction placed on it
Your bike has grown buddy remember that. Its not a teen aged girl anymore with pigtails It has grown into a fine woman a goddess shakti?(tripura sundari=the ONE and ONLY miss universe),a passionate woman! who has different needs now with all the hormones coursing through her hot blood
She needs to scream and moan with passion ,not just whisper in the dark under the sheets
So give her freedom and see how she takes you on a wild and passionate ride.Let her get naughty with you.

Go to vishal and let the silencer guy take some baffle off or make it free flowing without getting too loud, they will know what to do because i don't know what a f2 silencer is like on the inside.

                        ================================================== =======

So that means it's safer to go with a new 180 block rather than bore the old one. What about Classic Fiero exhaust... can it handle the extra load? I assume not... so how do we go about it?

A stupid question for you guys!

What exactly is involved in Jetting and Porting? and the output?

Classic fiero has THE BEST silencer of any bike manufactured in india maybe kinetic gf lazer comes close to it.
The classic fiero has a megaphonic type exhaust .Which is the loudest and most efficient type of exhaust and it's used in motogp bikes.
What i did this weekend was to get the welding guys to put a big hole in the only baffle the classic fiero has.Incidentally i had done this mod when the engine was stock and within a year of purchase of the bike then i had put a rocket silencer of the bullet too
So now my bike has a big hole in the baffle and it has a wider dia end-pipe,that is the final pipe which is in the silencer cap.I had put a 2 inch dia end pipe and rode for 20 kms!!within the city You guys should have seen the faces and huge grins on the welding guys and other ppl around when i started the bike They were whispering karizma piston etc etc.
The freaking sound was LOUD and on trailing throttle the bike was literally booming like a lion with extra deep bass voice.
It was ,i'm sure both you and vishal and other classic fiero owners know what i am saying here,on gear changes the sound was booming when you trail the throttle. It was too loud sadly ,but the bike felt very free revving. So then i went back to the welding guys and made them put a relatively smaller dia end pipe on the silencer cap
                          Total cost?? 100 bucks
Now what my bike needs is a bprags kinda bigger dia bend pipe. That will be done once the carb arrives.Fingers crossed.

Hey chief, i had came to kathmandu in the 90's on a tour as i had a uncle and aunt living in gorakhpur .It was quite an experience what with brake failure of the private bus near the bank of narayani river and a night stay in a place called mung ling? and travelling the rest of he journey on bus topIts a lovely place to live though I am sure you can use the extra torque of an 180 in such a mountainous region.
Pashupathi nath's temple was worth the visit though and what do you think of the post #745? Navaratri is near so goddess was on my mind. well i am always day dreaming about her anyway

                            • i finally got a hang of a bigger carb..

                              BS29 to be precise.
                              its good.
almost same as my current BS26 carb, the only visible difference is the inlet and outlet holes are bigger & the choke is different.

here's the pics of carb from all the 6 sides just to make sure i got the right one..

i searched for a mech nearby but he was closed, so i installed it ALL BY MYSELF.
for the first time ever i tried to even touch the carb and i guess it did fit right.
it was simple as visibly i imagined as what will go where, compared to the old one..
choke wire did confuse me initially, but after reading the knob's top i understood what i was for...
let me know if something is wrong ...

since all it needed was a screw driver, i did it, if spanners were needed i wouldn't have been able to do it as i don't have any..

1 good feature is the choke has a knob which needs to be pulled.
so i got rid of that choke wire completely, as i never ever use the choke hence it used to get jammed up all the time and i always had to buy a new wire to keep it working..
                              not anymore i guess.
i even removed the inner foam of the air filter..

                              the difference !!!

                              well.
bike did start in 1 single kick and was idling very very smoothly, it was humming like a bee.
i played around with carb tuning, but as soon as i used to turn the screw on either sides, it used to sound like the bike is struggling to keep running, so i left the settings which were by stock the best setup...
                              its strange though !!

i rode for a while and the difference is outstanding..
finally the bike does seem like a higher capacity machine..
                              it has become effortless.
revvs smoothly again, the good thing is that it starts turning into a monster above 3.5k rpm at every gear..

it feels more powerful though, lot more than the previous carb's setup.
it gives a 4th gear feel even on 3rd gear and 4th gear seems lot more better than stock 4th gear..

                              knocking is completely absent..
in 4th gear, the bike does pull gently from as low as 20kmph..

now it feels as a power upgrade !!!

I've ridden a total of 138 kms so far after the engine work..
its getting better with more kms..
i feel so much like ripping it hard...
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.
