    • @ NANOTech : Congratulations on the new purchase & good to hear that finally you got your hands dirty and did some work .

Planning for a ride on NH8 this sat to visit Mahalakshmi temple at Dahanu on the occasion of Navratri. Interested??

      Vishal
Id rather be on my motorcycle and think about God than be in temple and think about my motorcycle!!

      • i am very much interested buddy !!
but this run-in period will limit me between 40-50 kmph range..
        its very low for NH8...

i feel sleepy on the bike at such speeds, specially on the highways..

so i dunno what to say...

Your bike has grown buddy remember that. Its not a teen aged girl anymore with pigtails It has grown into a fine woman a goddess shakti?(tripura sundari=the ONE and ONLY miss universe),a passionate woman! who has different needs now with all the hormones coursing through her hot blood
She needs to scream and moan with passion ,not just whisper in the dark under the sheets
So give her freedom and see how she takes you on a wild and passionate ride.Let her get naughty with you.

Go to vishal and let the silencer guy take some baffle off or make it free flowing without getting too loud, they will know what to do because i don't know what a f2 silencer is like on the inside.

Hey chief, i had came to kathmandu in the 90's on a tour as i had a uncle and aunt living in gorakhpur .It was quite an experience what with brake failure of the private bus near the bank of narayani river and a night stay in a place called mung ling? and travelling the rest of he journey on bus topIts a lovely place to live though I am sure you can use the extra torque of an 180 in such a mountainous region.
Pashupathi nath's temple was worth the visit though and what do you think of the post #745? Navaratri is near so goddess was on my mind. well i am always day dreaming about her anyway

              buddy..
jetting is done on the carb..
and porting is done on the head ...

              this is how porting works..

they drill holes behind your valves..

thus this helps in improving the performance of the machine...
              its not necessary though !!

jetting is done on the carb..

jet is nothing but like a tap, which sprays the mixture of fuel and air..
as bike needs a richer mixture completely and not just more air or more fuel, if it needs more air and more fuel's combo, jetting is done..

that main jet is changed to the bigger one in this process..

thus as your stock jet is 105 i guess, gixxer would know better.
so a jet of 115 is good for a 180cc machine..

i hope you got a clear picture..

keep your current carb, just change the main jet to 115 or 112..
              and you'll be done !!

Thanks NANO for that helpful bit.
So the only the main jet is changed and nothing else is done right? ... I mean no drilling or making the holes bigger etc?

                • @chief ashman @nanotech

That pretty much is it .As far as porting is concerned it's an art rather than a science and its learnt through experience in trial and error manner .But of course if you have flow-bench facility and the current CFD its done in a scientific manner. For us ,we have to rely on the lathe guys experience and that decides to an great degree as to how much easier the gas flow is through the head.
Think of our engine as a air pump, the increasing of this ability of the engine to pump in the air and to pump it out is what tuning is all about.

Chief your carb has 97.5 main jet and RTR160 has 105 main jet.Since you live in the himalayas ,you would need a smaller main jet as the oxygen level will be less compared to where nanotech lives. So stick with the 97.5 main jet.

Oh ok,got it.You were asking about whether carb needs to be changed or not if you go for 180 bore kit.Answer is no need to change the carb.As nanotech said ,just do the jetting and porting and that should be enough.
Why a smaller carb for you while we are going for bigger carbs? That's because bigger the carb venturi dia ,lower the initial torque and mid range.Provided the other parameters are the same.Since you live in mountainous region ,you will need mid-range more than me or nanotech.Hence the BS26 carb of yours would be fine.Believe me my bike's still on stock carb with a bigger 115 jet and it feels like a 2 stroke in mid-range.
Another thing,2 strokes make peak torque at a lower rpm than 4 strokes .So acceleration will be more in 2 strokes were as top-end is more for 4strokes.

PORTING: They widen the port area and make it as straight as possible .So the ports are ground out.

Thanks Gixxer for the expert details. So even if I get the 180 setup, I can still go about with my old carb .... that is with a bigger 115 jet if required.
I think I'm finally getting the picture. So I guess the lathe guy will need to be an experienced expert and then everything will fall into place. Right?

That's it buddy it can be done by any lathe guy who knows what he's doing. It's no big deal to match the head with size of the bore.Do get the porting done too.

                        • Friends today me and bprags met up to try out each other's bikes. He has a perfect set up!!
The bike's an 180 cc one with RTR head, ported, with bigger dia bend pipe,RTR IDI Ignition,29mm carb and a K&N filterIn other words ,the whole kitchen sink has been thrown at it as far as modifications are concerned !!!except a free flow exhaust. The silencer is stock fiero one.
I mean believe me,the bike literally flies!!It's so free revving that it feels like a 2 stroke with no feel of the engine running.Engine is silk smooth and without any engine noise what so ever!!You should ride it to believe it.It certainly needs nothing more to be done.
Oh another thing it has disc brakes and the swing arm of the victor glx.So the bike is a sweet handling one too.
Just amazing to see what a fiero can be modified into.I mean imagine the kinda shock a guy on any other 220cc bike might get when he sees a stock looking fiero fly past him !!The only give away would be the induction roar of the K&N !!!.

common man. it is not as quick as the 220, but yeah it can definitely give the 180's and 200's a run for their money. you should ride her on a open road u will love it.

No need to be modest man ! I've ridden the 220's and trust me with the kind of weight power ratio your bike enjoys it can give a 220 a real scare. It literally feels like riding a 2 stroke man .What else can i say to describe it? The closest i can describe it is to say that it accelerates like shogun.

In the end he didn't want a K&N. He's just finished getting the bike overhauled and repainted, and didn't want to start messing around with the performance just yet. So I bought him a new riding jacket. But thanks gixxer_junkie. I'll keep that in mind for next year!
