Alrighty. Will have to check this again myself to make sure. Will check in n300 and r3. Might have to wait few more days to do that. Weekend over lol. But when i rode abhis r3 i had to start it like that even in cold and warm engine. Rode good 15kms in city traffic.

This Saturday, I went to see the R3,
I could not test ride her (not allowed!) but looks wise I was not disappointed.
Coming from a RC390 and D390 owner from the last 1 year or so.. here is my impression.

1. The bike looks big from the front! It is not sleek as the RC.. the front dome is wide and gives the impression of a big bike. Rear is again broad and not a stinger tail like the RC or even the R15 V2.
2. The rear suspension is well designed - I say so because the rear suspension of RC is well exposed.. The R3 suspension is neatly tucked in and is well protected from the rear wheel slush. Again the springs on the suspension look and feel premium and not the white 'painted' ones on the RC.
2. The 'plastic' quality is quite good. Frankly, I do not care till the damn thing does not vibrate!
2.1. The brake and clutch levers - WoW! (coming from a KTM owner)
2.2. The 'click' sound of the rear footpeg when closed - Ahh.. these small things make a KTM owner feel happy
2.3. The seat - Ohh boy - Felt like I was on a sofa.
2.4. The split handlebars - Well.. was a bit disappointed here - the ones on the RC feel a lot better but again would know better after riding.
2.5. The front forks - Yup. .they give the R3 away. Looks very 'weak' (if I dare say). A set of inverted forks on her and BOOOM - you have the true blue SBK looks.

3. The sound is pleasing - doesn't sound like an Auto that the KTM sounds like. I am sure there would be slip ons that can be used for her. Certain people at Motozone
4. The pillion seat is not as high set as the RC390 (my pillion tested this and provided the feedback) although it is very hard
5. I am in love with the Blue and white colour and the blue wheels (Rossi's YZR M1 has the same color wheels and they look amazing in motion). Black seemed more sobre but the Red and white stood out.

All I now need is a Test Ride to book the R3 and sell the RC. I am done with Baja-aaj for good with their quality and service. I am sure Yamaha won't be better. But the bike I am sure will be!

Well, we can guess anything. Some might even say 1.5 to 2 lacs ex showroom!

An informed guess (assuming 100% localisation) would factor in R&D, factory set up, target sales figure, profit margins etc in consideration and arrive at the ex showroom price.
Maybe 2.2 to 2.7 lacs ex showroom. Who knows?

This wouldn't bring any substance to the "ownership" thread.

Is the muck spew all over the place(include your pillion seat too) after this mod or is it just the under-the-seat area getting dirty.

Maybe 3.25 Onroad. Still it's a twin cylinder and none of the manufacturers make twin cylinders in India hence we might anticipate more cost than KTM 390. Maybe one day Bajaj will make twin cylinders.

If the kwid can cost 2.5l , R3 must be under 2l, if manufactured in India, has to be, other than chassis and engine, what can't be procured from local manufacturers?? Bybre, Bosch, hella, are already here, mrf , Dupont etc are also here, its just plain business man, they won't sell it at a lesser price even if they could just like that iPhone. 😕

It has been 10 days since I got my R3.
Currently I own R15(V2) as well.

The difference is significant in a better way.
When I first had a look at the bike, I did feel that plastic/cosmetics parts are not so special when compared to R15.
I guess the same opinion is discussed here too.
But I just want to say to them,please take a test ride, you will forget what the plastic and all even looks like :P.
The engine is butter smooth and the bike is much more comfortable than any bike in that segment.
Also, recently I got the feedback(from my wife) that even pillion seat is more comfortable than R15 .
Still in run-in period(under 7k rpm). I could manage top speed of 110kmph. So in run-in also, its decent enough to tour .
Zero vibrations, as expected from yamaha.

Very very happy owner.
P.S. I was waiting for this 250/300 cc yamaha bike from last 2 yrs and its worth the wait.

The Bike is awesome. and all of us who have got bike in Bangalore is busy enjoying the ride .

Also like Kuntalnag said, go and have a ride before you finalize and complain.

I was following up this thread since long (I mean since the beginnings, to be precise). Let's be happy that we in India have few options now to choose from in mid category (don't kill me for mentioning 300-400cc as mid category).

1. Duke 390 -
2. RC 390 -
3. R3 -
4. TNT 300 -
5. Ninja 300 -

Now you can choose based on your requirement & usage. year ago, we were stuck with either CBR 250, R15 or Duke 200/390 as an option available or only Ninja's costing 4 Lakh or more in the name of premium-ness...

@Owners: Have you looked into protective accessories like:
1. Frame sliders
2. Tank pad
3. Swingarm sliders/bobbins?

With my bike's delivery around the corner, these are the ones I am primarily interested in.
Others like radiator guard, etc. are needed too.

Frame sliders and tank pads are available with the dealers. Wasn't particularly imPressed with the frame sliders.. Better off sourcing an after market brand. Yamaha has priced theirs at 9000INR.

Tank pad is good, carbon fiber look. But currently I am looking to get a PPF done, so may be after that. Radiator guard and other Accessories will take some time, coz even the basic maintainence spares are arriving one by one these days..


Between, the first service is scheduled at 1000kms or 60days(2 months). That's a good schedule, time wise..!

9K INR is quite steep. I'm seeing some cheap ones between 3-5K on Ali Express but again, it will take time to arrive.
I cannot evaluate them as I have no experience with frame sliders too.
I find some with just a screw and a wider head, while others seem to have a plate on which they are mounted to the frame.

Do you have any pics of the Yamaha stuff?
Or someone can take next time they go.

P.S. If the fairing itself costs <10K is it still worth?
