After a long wait, a friend and I booked our Himalayans on 20th March. He booked a Granite, while I had my heart set on the Snow color. He got his a couple of weeks ago; I, having waited for a month and a half and with no hope of a white Himalayan reaching any dealership in Faridabad soon, brought home my matte black bike this Monday, 2nd May, just four days after I got blessed with a baby girl.

I've done 430 kms so far. Will be going for the first service this Sunday. I'll share my experiences of riding both mine and my friend's bikes soon.

Well, I first and foremost would like to thank Royal Enfield for not giving this bike enough power(Top speed is 130 claimed, irrespective of the BHP) and for the outrageous price tag.

Else I would have had a massive case of buyer's remose for picking up the other "so called adventure motorcycle".

But now, I know I couldnt have afforded it, and it would have been too slow for me.


Anyways, congrats on your bike mate. When are the off road videos coming?

Kudos on the two babies coming home.
I myself booked a snow on 20 March and received mine yesterday at Bangalore. Had a hell of a time at the showroom to get the delivery,will talk about it some time soon.But in the end here I am. Initial impressions from the 50 kms since yesterday till now,love everything except the hard gears and engine clattering.Both of them are a big turn off till now, undermining the whole package.Lets see what the first service does to it.

Hi Everyone,
New lad on the block here, so apologies for delayed post.
Fortunately couple of months back, while planning to book Thunderbird had a chance to take the Himalayan for a spin. My significant other was already drooling over the aesthetics and for was hellbent to make me get one*
Coming back to it , the bike being frank is one of kind. The up swept silencer which whirls to a tone unique to RE(s) and aggressive yet ergonomic saddle arrangement sure got my adrenaline pumping. The ride no doubt was smooth and I was absolutely admiring the attention it brought along.

The front forks do look promising and with the rear mono-shock, you sir are in for a treat.Something which I personally love about Enfields is their high torque arrangement easily available at low end RPM(s) , ideally making maneuver pretty easy .

The bike is exceptionally tall which clearly made me question its stability at higher speeds and cornering capabilities, but guys at RE made sure to keep that saddle arrangement not more that 800mm making sure it keeps the center of mass further close to soil and fits average Indian chap .
I am close to 6'3 but apart from few nudges like where my shins were always in contact with metallic restrainers there is int much to complain.

The instrument cluster is clean and the front visor though clatters a bit, provides a decent protection.

There is nothing much to whine about just that the engine felt really flamed up, and the transmission had few nudges with slotting in neutral.
But all these can be issues to bike specific to test rides and the fact that new bike being tested for its life and soul .


I would absolutely recommend the bike, with areas like Bangalore/Pune where riders require to be almost always on one's toes, this bike will give you great stance and comfortable city commuter. Weekend can be fun with rides round the urban areas. :thumbup:

I will still stick to TB500 for the reason of it being a semi-cruiser and its laid back sitting arrangement .

At 1.56 ex showroom it's a steal, did I mention it comes with a digital compass . Cool Stuff ! Cheers and ride safe

I've been keeping busy adoring my tiny angel. Well, about the Himalayan, completed 500 kms and the first service this Sunday. Below is the list of problems I reported to the people at service centre:

I had already got the very loose chain and mirrors adjusted a day before.

We both paid around INR 1100 each for the first service which included oil change and oil filter replacement. This reminds me, user manual says 2.5 ltrs of engine oil, while the service invoice says Rs 700 for 2 ltrs. Will have to check that.

When I started the bike for the first time after the service, to my horror, it stalled in an instant. I started it again, this time in front the service manager - stalled again. He had a blank face. This problem is much worse in my friend's bike which stalls almost every time he turns the handle bar.

It was late in the night, so we rode back home and the bike stalled once more in 3rd gear when I was not pulling the throttle. The engine still sounded hoarse and the vibrations were still there. They had not fixed the angle of the headlight, or done anything to fix the hard throttle.

Only the clutch and gearshift is much lighter now and finding neutral is much easier, which proved to be big relief today in Delhi traffic.

One more thing, the engine now feels more stressed in each gear and bike is reluctant to go over 20 kmph in 1st, while it was easily doing 40 earlier. In contrast, my friend's bike is absolutely smooth.

Worst of all, fuel gauge on my bike is faulty and needs to be replaced. The entire lock mechanism is being changed on my friend's bike. As expected, no parts are available for Himalayan yet and will take at least 2 weeks to arrive.

Two brand new bikes with manufacturing defects. Well done RE. What's more, the engine note, position of the handle bar and even the horn sound is different on the two bikes.

However, the bike still is ... wait for it.....
Awesome.

It puts a big smile on your face every time you sit on it and pull the throttle. It grabs a lot of looks, mostly of admiration, and a lot of questions like: Ye kaun si bike hai? Kitne cc hai? Imported hai kya? and all.

2 pages and we already have instrument console, ignition set replaced and north of potential mechanical and or other issues. Welcoming sign by RE, I hope things don't give away. Please, keep pouring your experiences, hunches, every single, nugget and input from you matters for at least 100 pages of this tread.

Congratulations and hope the bike lives up to your expectations.
