That's all I guess. Main thing in the first service is to change the oil and clean the oil strainer.

Hi all. My unicorn 160 is 55k km run. Is there a need for an engine repair or overhaul now?

If the oil level doesn't go down every 1000-2000kms by much (as in there's no or negligible oil consumption), there's no need. Also check for any white smoke from the exhaust.

You might need to get some valve lapping or decarbonisation done though.

Please explain what is valve lapping? I'm not an expert in such matters. Where can i get it done?

    Quoting an article from AnandTech-

    "What is Valve Lapping?
Valve Lapping is basically sanding down the surface of the Valves (which allow fuel and air to flow in, and exhaust to flow out) and the Head (Holds the Camshafts and valves) where they make contact with each other. This is done by applying a Compound Paste (pretty much just oil and a fine grade of sand) to the edges of the valves and spinning them in their seats on the head.

What are the benefits of Lapping?
The two that I am aware of are*
    1) creates a better seal between the valve and the head, which will prevent gases from escaping during the compression stroke of your engine.
    2) the greater contact area allows for more heat dissipation from the valves to the head which will prevent burnt valves."

Is there any problem in your engine such as loss of power or reduction in mileage?

There is both loss of power and mileage. I think its due to bad carb tuning. I'll go to a mechanic to figure it out probably. Is there anything else i should take care of?

This might be due to carbon build up on the valves and engine head too. You might want to get that checked.

Also get the engine oil strainer and the centrifugal filter cleaned.

Also check the speed vs rpm while running if it is the same as before. For example, if the bike was showing 55kmph@4000rpm, and now it is showing 50-52kmph@4000rpm, the clutch might be slipping and it may be time for a change of clutch plates.

Will do that. Including changing clutch plates along with a DC. How much will it all cost? Will it go beyond 4k?

    I don't think it'll go beyond 4k, check with the SVC/mechanic.

Do check the speed vs rpm before changing the clutch plates.
