TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
First 1600 kms of any bike are crucial and that run in period decides engine life. If run in is not done properly then various issues could occur in future like vibrations, low pick up, engine rattle noise, etc.Originally posted by the devil View PostLast edited by Chandan92; 07-31-2016, 07:30 AM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Hi Brother, I understand that TVS has developed a new anti friction Nano coating technology applied inside the cylinder. Is it still wearing out the sides of Piston and Cylinder in the process of run in period? Will not that wear out the coating then? In the age of high precision why the piston cylinder is not made to work very smoothly like a mechanical watch from the beginning? The wearing everybody refer to may be the other parts like gears etc. I suppose. Please enlighten me as I am not a mechanical engineer but a layman.Originally posted by AbiRam View PostHi the Devil glad that you got your bike but you do have to control your excitement before the first run in period. I did also lose my mind for awhile when i got my ride, but later learned about the science of run in period and since then i never had a hard ride. Its basically the engine is new, the cylinder liner and the piston will need to rub in a very linear manner, before the first service if the engine is run in lower rpm , there will be not much of vibration and the minute dust like particles due to friction will mix with the engine oil once this oil is replaced in the first service you can start raising and speed up a bit more. But if you run in higher rpm before your first service the engine will tend to vibrate and friction will be non linear ,the Cylinder liner and the piston wear be more of oval shape than the usual cylindrical shape leading to faster bore out of the cylinder. Hope it gave you some insight on the engine run in period.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
We have all discussed run in topic to death, but let me just repeat the entire thing....again.
In this era of technology and precision, the parts have taken a giant leap from what they used to be, but that doesnt guarantee that nothing can go wrong. It can be rare but not full proof.
The valve, bore , piston and the rings in a new engine , need some time to wear in so that they are properly mated with the surfaces they arte in contact with. Nano friction coating and all the high tech abbreviations are just a way of saying, that these things might be strong but they are not full proof.
The negatives are , engine looses compression, proper combustion doesnt happen etc which leads to the decrease in reliability and longevity of the parts that are inside the engine.
A naked eye might see the parts smooth as silk but due to machining , grinding they do have rough surfaces, these edges need some time to wear off , which generally drains out with the firstengine oil drain.
Hope this explains the RUN IN thing completely to people who just rev the sh$$ out of new bikes thinking that this is what meant to be done to the new bikes.
Ever seen "Indian bikes/less powered bikes" come out of the factory and going into dyno? And why the high powered bikes go into dyno (each one of them) #foodforthoughtFare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Its not possible to get a new bike with 0 kms on the odo, when i went to the showroom to make the purchase i had 5 options 1)grey one with 4.5kms on odo and 75 as recorded high speed that also had a scratch on the tank,2) matt red with 7 kms on odo and 80 as high speed 3)black one with 9kms on odo and 112 as high speed 4) glossy white with 5kms on odo and 79 as top speed 5)another black one that i bought with 5 kms on odo and 81 as top speed recorded. we cant demand a bike with 0 on odo or high speed but atleast we can take care of it while its into our possession during the run in period. The gixxer which i test rode a month earlier had some electrical manipulations done to it because of which the electrical console and the self starter was not working ,this is to avoid the odometer from increment. all these things really pissed me off and i lost faith in showrooms and i advice the buyers to do a very close inspection of the bike before purchase. Another Apache 200 which i test rode a few days back was throttled so insanely in front of me that i was about to shout at the technician , since i dint have the plan to purchase the bike from that showroom as the quoted price was high there, i kept my mouth shut took the test drive and walked away quietly.
I learned one more thing that our Apache 200 has a strange bug which allows the odo and the high speed recorded and all the other records to reset entirely please be careful buyers.
anyways the bike is insanely powerful , console is a piece of cake, extremely hot looking, and a VFM package, people planning for a 150cc segment should once think of this one if mileage is not a constraint. the base variant is definitely a bang for the buck. issues with the bike are yet to be found, cant comment about the reliability but the built quality seems great. lets see how it does in the long run. hoping for the best.
Hornet was my first choice but i dropped it because of the unreasonable high price, lack of quality switch gear, same old console, inadequate headlight throw, poor paint and weld job on chassis.
Gixxer sf was dropped from the list because it looked a bit small for my height and the pillion comfort was not adequate.
Bajaj was not in my list because neither i had the patience nor the time to take care of the niggles which i came to know from the ownership thread.
duke was not in my budget.
Things that were absent in other with same price segment
1) kyb suspension
2)DRL's (looks beautiful)
3)oilcooled engine with RAM air assist
4) Quality switchgear
5)Unmatched exhaust note
6)Instantaneous throttle response, there is always a bit of delay in any other bike of same segment.
7)Immensively narrative Console(looks very cool)
con:
The exhaust should have been a stubby one like in fz v1 or hornet since it doesnt gel up well with the looks of the bike, but once you hear the exhaust note i ensure you , you will have no problem by the looks of it. same with the headlight it looks too wide but once you turn the ignition on then you will notice the DRL's running at the corners and you will feel that the extra width is indeed better.
Thank you Xbhp for helping a noob like me to understand and make a wise decision. thanks all the members. will keep posting inshallah.

Buddy, my bike is 4 days old as of date and the first 3 days it has endured heavy rain. No problems at all as of now and hope (fingers crossed) none will ever be.Originally posted by the devil View PostTo the owners of rtr 200 i have a doubt on this bike have any one rode the bike in heavy rain and has the bike stayed under the rain during an night and does it affect the dispaly of the bike or some other bugs due to rain

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
Bike manufacturers know that every bike WILL be run in rain eventually. Every bike can be used in rain, so don't worry about thatOriginally posted by the devil View PostTo the owners of rtr 200 i have a doubt on this bike have any one rode the bike in heavy rain and has the bike stayed under the rain during an night and does it affect the dispaly of the bike or some other bugs due to rain

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V
I did 270 KM trip today on my RTR 200 and completed 1k KM
.
Visited Lepakshi temple in AP.
Updating the experience and queries
.
Straight line stability is good without crosswind
With crosswind bike swings in lane very easily at high speed.
What to do in heavy crosswind on highway
.
Top speed achieved today is 129 km/h (I guess this is the official top speed
)
Engine RPM did not go up after 9K .
I tried full throttle two time only and noticed RPM not moving after 9k . one time it was below 9k . Could anyone inform me here if anyone tried full throttle at top gear.
I have noticed there is gap in actual and indicated reserve.
First time the gap was around 17-20 km . actual reserve came early then indicator turned on after mentioned KM .
Today the gap was 50KM :what: .
I hope new bike does not stop abruptly after some choking other than reserve (experiencing first time as I never let it happen in my scooty, need to check FE :sly: ).
Dropped the bike at the end of journey while moving the bike to basement parking , it tipped over right side slowly , scratch on foot guard and break lever and handle :banghead: .
Shall I ask at ASC to look for any issue because of fall?
.
RTR owners and experts , please share thoughts and experiences .
CheersDo Rev your heart in out or on treadmill After revving you bike's engine.A free flowing and high revving heart will give more happy miles too :)
