That way you can reach the service center to get it fixed. I am not sure if that is the case with the new D390 since I was not able to find the user manual anywhere.
    1. The bike will not run at a 'constant' 6k rpm, you could say that it will not exceed a certain rpm/speed.
    2. In case of certain failures (sensors, low fuel pressure etc..) these bikes go in to a limp home mode (or whatever fancy name the manufacturer wants to call it). That doesn't mean it will happen for all failures, sometimes the bike might just refuse to start or be rideable (like for example if the side stand sensor fails)

Unless one has the information on these items from the manufacturer and a diagnostic tool (which are very expensive, especially the oem ones) it will be difficult to point out the cause of failure. Ones best bet is to head to the svc immediately to get it checked, they have a pretty good diag tool (the bosch green colored one) and I hope it has been calibrated (or they get a new diag tool) for the new 390's considering it has a different electronics setup (CAN bus, RBW)

How does the RPM change if the throttle doesn't work?

which is why i said 'certain failures'. if for some reason the throttle is totally unusable, the bike might not even start. That depends on how the manufacturer designs the system to operate. They might limit the rpm (i.e. not let the engine exceed a certain rpm), alter a/f ratio, change ignition timing etc.. in the limp mode (think of it like the safe mode in Windows on your computer)

Have you ever tried keep the bike at 6000 rpm (holding throttle open) and then letting go of the clutch ? Am sure it is going to be very dangerous even on a splendor!

The good thing about RBW as opposed to a throttle cable is, when a throttle cable is snap, the leverage to the throttle cable is disconnected, rendering it useless. On a RBW, system though the entire throttle body operation is carried over by a motor, which has it's nerves connected to the ECU. So, if the sensors at the handlebar level fail, the ECU detects this and as folks pointed out, the bike goes to limp mode, meaning say around the ECU locks the RPM to 3000 RPM, this way, the engine is running so you can shift gears without the risk of stalling the engine again.

Too high an RPM and you run the risk of stalling the engine when shifting gears. If my memory serves me correct most RBW bikes enter the 3 to 4k RPM range when they detect a system failure, which is a pretty clever idea, so you don't get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

P.S. Though this might not be applicable for all motorcycles out there. For the 2017 Duke 390, I guess, we'll have to wait how its system is calibrated.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Bad news. I did some inquiries and it looks like almost every new D390 owner has started facing this issue. I have booked my bike and it might arrive soon. I'm really confused what to do.. moreover, my loan will also be dispersed in a few days. How can KTM screw up this bad? Didn't anyone in their testing team face this issue during their runs? It's ridiculous that such a show stopper bug can slip through. Unbelievable.

How many of them? I am quiet sure not many have got deliveries yet. But plz provide source if you can. And don't worry, if you are skeptical just hold on to your horses, ask the dealer to allot you a bike next month. Emi will start but anyways its gonna start on one day or the other.

I tried to get in touch with the few people who did get their bike delivered. You can find them posting these issues on social media (I found a few through insta). And yes, I can wait for the dealer to allot a bike next month, but from April 1st I will have to pay 15k more due to raise in tax in my state. I expected a few issues with the bike being newly released and all that, tbh. But not blocker issues.

    Poor homework by KTM boffins!

Suddenly, one might feel the old one fared much better. Akshay, I'd be curious to know if any proactive steps, solutions were provided by the service center side regarding this issue. Since you've mentioned "almost every new" I am wondering, the circle you've contacted, have anyone sorted this issue or have found at least what can be the culprit for the dreaded "ECU ERROR". Keep us posted on the catch ups, social media queries and responses, from your side as well as your friends' so that we all can all have a glimpse of this elusive bug(ger)

    Cheers!
