Your comments in bold is 100% true. Blunt replacement of parts seems to be the order of the day instead of analysis, identify cause, explain and fix .

    I own Pulsar 150 UG 4.5 - 21K ODO.. 2 years old from Ahmedabad!!

Recently I got it serviced by local mechanic(Big mistake maybe) after which I have been facing strange problem with the bike.
As soon as I try to accelerate beyond 6000 RPM iet starts stalling as if fuel is empty. Bike makes strange sound from silencer at the same time as if trying very hard to go on..

Even my acceleration has reduced it seems and mileage has gone down drastically since then!!! Till date I used Motul 5100 as engine only but since service it was changed to Castrol power 1. Its been 25 days since the issue started..

I am not speeding beyond 70Km/h since I am afraid I will ruin the engine.. Recently discovered that bike is not even touching speed of 80 and makes weird sound as if engine is coughing.. Now its really nagging me and I need to resolve this. Please pass on suggestions on what could be causing this.

    Any ideas n suggestions??n

    Hi Abhijith

Were your clutch plates changed/checked ? Fading clutch plate can be one reason.

Get your carb diaphram checked first. This could be the main culprit IMO.

    Hello people,

I am planning to get a used 150 for commuting.
But seeing the new gen pulsars I am not happy with the console and the fairing and the fact that 1st gen pulsars are out of stock, there is no way I can get those.

So my plan is to get any gen pulsar 150 and retro mod it, round head lamp, analogue consoles and the 15 liter tank.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers
    Manan.

Does anyone here feel that the first and second gear are really short geared and that the 2nd should have been the first gear? It pulls okay'ish in the first gear but post 3K RPM, it really starts giving vibrations and temper. 2nd gear is okay with the pull but near the same range of 3-4K RPM, it again shows roughness, vibrations and lacks that punch. There is no way to get the maximum possible burst of acceleration without having experiencing the vibrations. In 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, the bike pulls neat and clean without any fuss or drama.

Can this be altered? I feel there is not enough power generated in that 150cc engine and that the torque is a bit low considering the weight it carries which often gets me thinking of getting Duke or CBR. :'(

@Manan : I guess you can get that round healights fitted to the current gen bike but not sure about converting the digital meter to analog. You still get that 15L tank, infact it drinks more than that, somewhere around 18L of petrol to the brim. I find the current digital speedo to be more easy to read and amazingly clean and neat design. It displays the required info quite easily and that is what I like about it.

I own a ug 2 model & recently did a continuous ride of 75 kms at a speed of 60 - 70 kmph. When I took a break, I found the engine to be extremely hot & light fumes were also emerging.
I have done so many long rides on the same bike but never experienced so much overheating!
I have recently changed the oil to motul 3100 20w50. The oil is still clear & transparent & its only 200 km old.
I checked the spark plug. Recently the AFR setting has been tuned & I thought may be the tuning is not perfect. But color of spark plug is light tan which seemed ok.
Also, during the ride after the break, the bike felt very sluggish as if somebody has tied a rope from behind & pulling it behind.
Earlier by bike felt so smooth & effortless & now its the opposite. Completely sad... I didn't speed over 60 kmph. I was riding with a pillion. The bike is 31000 km old & maintained perfectly.
    What can be the problem?

Hi akash,, even i used to feel the same way until some time back.. the thing is, the gear ratios that these companies give are after a lot of research and keeping in mind their entire customer base in the country.. while the 2nd gear in place of first is quite tall, i do feel that a ratio between the 1st and 2nd can be used for first gear.. but that would be true only for us people living in cities in plane regions.. I used to feel the same about cars too.. but my mind changed after i recently went on road trip to lonavala and a small road trip to a small hill near our city where theres a temple.. and guess what.. there were climb sections in the road where i was forced to keep the bike and car on 1st gear only.. on 1st gear the vehicles would climb easily and the rpms would go high but as soon as i put them in 2nd gear, no matter what, the rpms started coming down slowly and then again i had to shift down... this was a continuous process.. shift up from 1st to 2nd, and then back again.. and then i realized.. that these gear ratios are given keeping in mind an all round usage of the vehicle.. there are people in cities and also hilly areas .. and people living in cities going to these hill stations.. at that time, this first gear wouldnt feel so short.. vehicles we drive are for an all round usage and not like racing cars which are optimized before each race for the track they are supposed to race on...

I agree to that fact mate. Its just that the vibes tend to irritate couple of times. Plus the crazy harsh gearbox isn't helping either. I again say, its a fantastic bike for city use and even though 1st seems to be short, it does help at some places. We don't have a lot of mountains out here with heavy two wheeler use

    Hi guys,

I have my old pulsar 150 classic round headlights.. recently painted it at home, had the tank chromed and some other maintenance stuff.. but its just sitting around .. take it out for an occasional ride because it's really close to me .. am not gonna sell it..

now i was wondering about small tweaks here and there for slight performance gains..

know all the basics about air intake, free flow air filter and exhausts and jetting the carb etc etc.. i am interested in doing something more close to the engine and found out some stuff about advancing the cam timings or the valve timings.. many have claimed quite significant increase in the lower and midrange torque and power which is what i mostly use as I dont plan to take out this bike on long fast rides out of the city..

has anyone experimented this on their bikes.. if so, would like some first hand info about the differences observed after the changes . and differences in each aspect . not just power, the engine note, acceleration, fuel efficiency drop or rise while easy riding etc etc..

I need some guidance regarding this. sorry if this topic has been discussed before but this thread is too long to read all the way from the beginning and the search doesnt return any desirable results..

    thanks..
