  • I was on my bike and The Beast was in the opposite direction so couldn't click any pics but just for the reference it was just like this

    Didn't see the no plates, might be the same one ! In lower RPMs it sounded like Bull

        I am planning to join in for this event. Below are some of the activities which would be carried out.
        This invitation was extended to Ninja 250R owners from Bajaj Auto.
        When:
        Date: 30th October (Saturday)
        Time: 9:45 am
        Start Point: Bajaj Probiking (next to Ruby Hall Hospital).
        There would a team from Kawasaki for expert advice for the Ninja Owners. This would be followed by a short ride which will culminate at Le Meridien. There would be presentations from India Kawasaki Team at the Hotel followed by Lunch.
        I was informed that a pillion rider can join in, however with a helmet on.
        I have not yet received any official email from Bajaj. We will wait for more info.

          The engine is overheating and the problems is precipitated by a few kilometers of running not because of fuel accumulation inside the cylinder with the non-functioning spark plug. 4-stroke engines work on the principle of forced expulsion of gases during the exhaust stroke i.e the piston pushes the gases out of the cylinder with force during its upstroke with the exhaust valve open. So nothing accumulates inside the cylinder as long as the valves are opening and closing as they should.

          The 'delayed' heating up and loss of power happening in Yaseer's bike is due to two reasons.
          1. That the engine is running on only one cylinder and that is overloading the engine by itself. Any constant overloading of an IC engine will lead to overheating.
          2. The same working cylinder is also carrying the load of the non-functional cylinder which is just running as a power-sapping pump!

          These two tasks are putting too much load on the single functioning cylinder. The overloading induces a heat build up, which at first is coped with well by the liquid cooling but after a while there's more heat being added to the system than it is capable of rejecting. As a conjecture, had this been an air-cooled engine, the few kilometers would have been reduced to just a kilometer or two. Also a loose spark-plug cable weakens the spark (in case the plug cap is loose but resting on the spark-plug top), so effectively retarding the ignition and producing lots of residual heat in the faulty cylinder which fires intermittently.

          Interestingly, air-head Harley's at one time had a 'parade mode' selectable by the rider. This had to do with constant low speed low gear operation, like in a parade, that would lead to the rear cylinder in a V-twin heating up due to the lack of cooling air circulation around it and at times seizing. The rider could switch off the rear cylinder's ignition while in the parade to stop that heat build-up. Of course, even a single cylinder firing on a 1200cc engine produced enough torque to keep the bike going effortlessly at low speeds.
          Hmm...thank you friend. You certainly are an 'old fox'! The most likely reason is, it was'nt fit properly after the service and that must be the reason why the PBK guy is not able to give reasonable reasons. Wonder if I should escalate the issue at the cost of alienating the only person in the city, who can service my bike??

                • Hey guys, I'm planning to save up for one of these babies and I wanted to know a few things.

                  What is the current ex-showroom price of a Ninja in Mumbai? Different people tell me different things, anywhere between 2.45 to 2.7 to 3.1 lakh... so which is it?

                  Does Bajaj PBK do 'exchange your old bike' for Ninjas? And what kind of drop in price can I expect if they do that?

                  How much is a second-hand Ninja? I was thinking I'd feel less guilty tuning a second hand one than a brand new one. Plus I guess most people don't put as many kms on these bikes as they would on commuters or regular Indian bikes? So second-hand might be worth it if the price is right.

                    I seriously doubt if PBK has an exchange scheme for the ninja. What would they do with the exchanged bike? Selling it off is a bigger hassle for them and they wouldnt go that far to sell one or two ninja's.

                    What kind of tuning do you have in mind for the ninja? A used ninja should cost you anything between 2.4 lacs to 2.8 lacs depending on the condition of the bike and the mileage it has clocked.

                      Honda's coming up with a 250 single by year end, being a single it will definitely be cheaper...maybe you want to wait till then?

                          I suppose then I would need to sell my bike off on my own. Was just wondering if they had any such scheme. By tuning I meant minor stuff like exhausts, etc.

                          • Latest update on rear brake lock:

                            Even after work was done on rear brake, I was not completely satisfied and felt that the pads were still dragging a bit.

                            Yesterday, called up company service in-charge. He took bike from my home and replaced the whole brake assembly under warranty.

                            It seems, the piston movement was not free so instead of repairing it, they replaced the whole thing. He even offered to drop my bike back to home but I politely declined.

                            Absolytely hassle free great service. Thanks Bajaj.

                              " hamara bajaj " . good service, but that apart TV you have sensed problem again and got it done before things went out of hand a second time.

                              so i have mixed feelings about this.

                              had my first service today at PBK chennai. had to drive 150+150 kms from vellore and back. did not feel any difference before and after service. but your bikes performance is depended on your mechanic who attends your machine. as you can watch the service it is something that makes you feel good. oil change along with filter. the old oil was clean slightly off colour no residue. ( they have put bajaj DTSI oil bulk stock )
                              cost of service Rs 1517/-.

                              only it was raining on my return trip to vellore and my black ninja is now brown ninja ( all water wash,polish, chain clean etc wasted )
