  • Is the R15's paddock stand a straight fit for the 250R?

+100 to that. The R15' seat cowl is made of very flimsy plastic&mine has already cracked within a year with no misuse. The Ninja's cowl is absolutely worth it, for the quality. I also like the rubber padding for the back support. Proper SBK style.

      WHY?
But I feel the black rear panels&green seat look out of place. I would have liked it to be all green, including both the seats, or else both seats black&rear panels green.

So how much did the green panels cost? Are you fitting the sliders yourself? I guess you can get a black seat cover instead of getting a black seat just for the color?

You said the oil change interval is 12K kms. I am wondering-does the engine oil last for 12K kms.? I haven't heard of any semi-synth lasting that long!
&Also you haven't answered my query-why does the Ninja do only 80kmph at 6K RPM in top gear-I thought it should do much more considering R15 itself does about 90kmph at that RPM.

Now I have a new query-is the Ninja heavy to lift? I don't mean literally lift, but in tight parking like my office I need to hold my R15's grabrails&lift the rear a bit-would it be possible to do that? Where do you hold, considering the bike doesn't have any grabrails?

Oil change is at 12k Kms. Bike gets serviced at 6k kms but neither oil nor oil filter gets replaced untill 12K kms.

I personally dont like the black tail panels either but its hard to come accross ppl sharing the same opinion/taste. I would have babies with anyone who agrees with me on this point.

The Ninja does feel heavy to me. I cant lift it. But thats me. If you need to be doing acrobatics ( which I have tried a couple of times ) with the bike to shove the bike in a narrow parking gap then you will be damned ! There is nothing to hold the bike with and unless one wants to be ripping the tail panels off I wouldnt even dream of pulling on the tail panels.
If anyone knows where one can hold and pull the Ninja while doing all of the above pls help me out too !

I see. But then how is it that the semi-synth oil is lasting that long? Maybe jd666 can find an answer!

We can't have babies, but yes I do feel the same.

The very same thing I was thinking about-I need to do acrobatics every single day in my office parking lot, where bikes are parked on both sides, with less than a bike's gap in between. Sometimes I have to go back all the way in reverse. It is a tiring affair everyday. With no grabrails&approx.50kgs.more weight than the R15, I would be damned.
What about the rear footrest rods? Are they strong enough?
One more primitive technique I have seen SVC mechs practicing is bending the bike on the side stand&twisting it around, but for that also they need to hold the grabrails, so maybe again ruled out for the Ninja.
Seems like the Ninja needs more premium parking than the R15!

I am also enjoying this from quite some time . while riding people coming from opposite side (including traffic police) signal for head light is on. some bikers asked original hai ke duplicate kaha se banake liya. It's very common guy's asked you about bike details but two day's back i was going from office to home one santro came near to me & asked me to pullover & i was like 5 beautiful chiks inside the car they wanted to click pics of bike after photo session over one of them was asking about specification of bike.

Neither do i feel that the oil will last for the 6k kms as specified till the next service. The indian riding conditions surely throw the service intervals out of the window. I am looking at getting the oil changed to synthetic after another 3000 kms or so, and then changing the synthetic oil every 3000 kms. Simple.

&Also you haven't answered my query-why does the Ninja do only 80kmph at 6K RPM in top gear-I thought it should do much more considering R15 itself does about 90kmph at that RPM.

Because it is geared in such a manner. The R15 has a rev limiter of 10,000 rpm, where as for the ninja its at 13.5k. Also the peak power of the R15 is at 8500, whereas for the ninja its around 10,000 rpm. Also the ninja having a dual cylinder setup, would have better torque and power delivery.

But comparing the performance RPM to RPM for both bikes would not make sense.

Yes it is heavy to lift and maneuver, and the rear cannot be held at any point, other than the bungee cord hook maybe. I generally sit on the bike, and move it around as far as possible, and park it with ample space on either side, or in a hidden niche or corner, where the chances of bikes getting parked are lesser. Moreover my bike rarely comes out in the daytime, so i find parking spots much easily.

I dont think the semi synth will last that long, though its what they are using on the 220s and 200s at the SVC, also do not twist the bike on the side stand, it will cause the mounting to bend, the stand is only to support the bike, not to sustain the entire weight of the machine.

It cost me around USD 190 (which is the double the US price). I have ordered them, hope they have these '09 parts in stock and hand them over to me on Friday. Today I got a call from them saying that they did not have the swingarm bolts (not spools) I had asked for - though they promised me to give me an alternative...

Yes, if I buy the frame sliders I will fit them on myself - there is a lot of DIY help on the net.

Thats almost Rs.10K. Wouldn't getting them repainted be a cheaper option? I know its a new bike, but there are very good paint jobs that can be as good as original. In this case you would be saving 2 original panels from getting scrapped too! I think with the correct color code match+lacquer coating, the job can be as good as original, for less than 1K.
As for the seat, I would suggest the seat cover option.

                    • You're right on both counts (tail paint and seat cover), but I'd prefer OEM Anyway, I think I will miss buying the seat from the shop here (since you have to order it a few days in advance) as I cannot seem to escape from work during the day. Will probably order it online when back in India. Maybe Bajaj has it...
