  • I have a few queries:
    1) 85% of the time I ride below or at 4000rpm, though I keep on varying the rpm.
out of curiosity I ripped it to 12000rpm just for once, will it be harmful? I did that after I had done 120kms on the odo as I couldn't resist.
2)When does the low fuel light starts to glow, I mean when how many litres remain it starts to glow??
3)I've got false neutrals twice is there anything wrong?? I've never had such things on my R15.
4)Assuming the low fuel light to come on when 4.5l of fuel is left, I'm getting a mileage of around 22-23, isn't it decent enough?

1.no harm in revving it once in a while..make sure that u revv it too much for longer periods as you are still in run-in
      ..
      2.elaborate a bit..are u referring to positive neutral finder???

3 and 4 i think the fuel light glows when the 4lts of fuel is remaining in the tank, not sure though

+1 If my understanding is correct, the low fuel light stars to blink slowing at 4.5lts but it remains permanently lit-up from 3lts onwards.

        • With the false neutral I meant when I shifted from 4th to 5th, no gear was engaged and the bike just revved to 7000rpm also the neutral light didn't come on, but the bike was neutral I had to shift up again and then the gear got engaged.
BTW the bike is a joy to ride around the corners and the feel/sound is intoxicating.
          thanks harsha and "the clebrity".

            Congratulations on the new ride

Since the bike is new to you, you may be getting used to the gearbox(how much effort is required to shift from one gear to the next etc.). This may happen rarely as per my experience, but in general false neutrals are a rare occurrence.
May I ask which A* jacket is it that you are wearing, where you got it from and for how much?

            • Guys, anybody from navi mumbai or Mumbai has changed their rear tyre? I heard most are going for the pirelli sport demon (130/70 - 17 M/C 62H TL - 2.25 BAR). Any idea where this can be got and changed in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai.
Bajaj is asking Rs.8500/- for the rear.

That is because the fuel sensor is located towards the seat side of the fuel tank, so a change in road gradient will cause the light to come on and off. One might have only 2 litres of fuel left but would not see the light come on constantly if you are riding on a constant incline.

The safe thing to do is to remember when the light showed up for the first time and then fill within a 80 km range. I have even done 130 kms after the fuel light showed up, and I ran out of fuel just outside a petrol station. But I doubt if everyone will be that lucky!

                    • i'm presently having a tug of war between baby ninja and baby blade and I have a doubt on what I have read in ninja 250r threads.

i read that ninja 250 has a low poor end torque, the real deal kicks in only after 9k rpm, and hence it would struggle/will be difficult to ride in traffic whereas as cbr250 has a good proportion of torque across low-mid ranges as well, so for city riding purpose cbr is better.

im not that much technically sound on these stuff. hence wanted to know from ninja riders here what difficulty are we talking about- we need to keep on revving?, shift between first 3 gears quite frequently? please enlighten me on city riding (bumper-bumper traffic) on a ninja.

                      thanks a lot

One shop (in Kharghar Navi Mumbai) is quoting Rs. 4000/- for the sportdemon 130/70. Says he has the 140/70 in stock as well and he will fit it. Is the price ok. Also wanted to know if balancing of tyre is required for a new tyre.

i think that price is quite reasonable(not sure though as i didnt have idea about price of sport demons!).stick on to 130/70 mate!

its simple .. nobody spends 3.25 lakhs to buy " ninja 250 has a low poor end torque, the real deal kicks in only after 9k rpm, and hence it would struggle/will be difficult to ride in traffic ".. when u can buy CBR at almost half the price.

there is no comparable bike to NINJA 250 in the universe today in its category.

i hope that answers your question.

It is true that the CBR would have better torque in the lower RPM than the Ninja mainly due to the 125*2 config of the Ninja compared to the 250*1 of the CBR. Big single cylinder blocks tend to produce more torque in the lower rev range than multi cylinder blocks of the same combined capacity. Having said that your statement that " it would struggle/will be difficult to ride in traffic" is totally wrong. ninja 250 has just the right amount of torque needed to deal with traffic and to haul its own weight as is required. Gear changes are not that frequent probably due to the fact that the ECU makes sure the bike can pull cleanly from a low rpm in a high gear. To give you an idea the ninja can pull cleanly from 30KMPH in 6th gear. However if you are looking for that kick in the back feel when u release the clutch in a lower gear(like u get in a p220) then you might find that absent. The acceleration is very linear, if you know what i mean.

Actually the Ninja starts accelerating from 4000 rpm, and the first gear goes upto 40kmph or so. In peak city traffic, I keep my Ninja between 1st and 2nd gear, and I outaccelerate 99% of the other vehicles when I see a gap.

The Ninja can be fun in traffic too!
