Bike is very good...but only the maintenance part is very much high...my cousin own a Ninja...recently has changed a Rear Disc plate...at 11,000 Rs...

Initially some other bike has hit his N250 and it get fairing changed..break lever,,gear lever...at 43,000 Rs...so cost of spares are very much high...

Service cost ranges between ~2k and ~8k and comes every 6k kilometers (It will be on the lower side most of the time). You will get an avg 23 kmpl overall.

Spares are very very costly if you crash - have a serious one and you will be looking at 2 GSX worth of money . A fairing costs ~14k (per side) to give you an idea.

Consumables like disc pads, headlight bulbs are also costly - but they will be replaced maybe once a year ~ - and you can substitute cheaper local options if you want.

The Ninja can be used as a daily commuter - I do ride daily in Mumbai traffic. She heats up a bit- but nothing really uncomfortable there. The bike is very reliable, of extremely high quality and very few issues have been reported on this forum in general. But I would suggest keeping the GSX with you if moolah is not an issue. It should be more easier in traffic than Ninja.

When you buy the bike, try to get the service history from the SC and see if it has crashed. Also check the fairings for any cracks. Other than that it is just the same points you follow while buying a second hand bike.

Also keep in mind that you will not be eligible for warranty even if your bike is under warranty period- it is only applicable for first buyer.

This I heard earlier and tried checking with Pro biking in Bangalore, Some stupid guy there said it is also applicable for second buyer.

Will keep my first bike also for sometime, later will decide to sell or not.

Ninja 250R is not expensive to maintain. It's like maintaining a small car or a wee bit more thats all.

Spares (consumables) are not very expensive and ONLY if you crash and the bike needs replacements parts and repairs then the cost of repair will be high (of course insurance is there but they dont cover 100% of the repair bill).

To give you an idea,

I service - Rs. 1500 (1000 kms)

II service - Rs. 500 (6000 kms)

III Service - 6000 (12,000 kms)

and so on. All this includes cost of oil and consumables. Of course i change oil once every 5k kms and hence my service bill is a wee bit higher (oil costs me 1.5k for each change so not a huge cost).

If you get a black ninja you can use it freely as a daily commuter since its very understated in the looks department. You wont get much attention on a black ninja except from keen eyes since its often mistook as a normal bike.

Green however screams for attention and even with big bikes like ducati monster etc. the green ninja makes heads turn. This is a fact since we have a red monster in our gang and it sometimes its not even noticed when we park the bikes alongside each other.

Mileage will be around 24-25kmpl on an average.

Keep the chain clean and lube it regularly (along with regular service and maintenance) and your long term maintenance costs will be low. The chain and sprocket set costs 12k but is replaced only towards 25k or 30k kms.

You will never need to change the disc rotor unless the brake pads have worn off completely and its metal against metal leading to rotors getting warped or damaged.

So looks like a maintenance issue to me rather than regular wear and tear.

vkuchhal's ninja has done 21,000 kms in 2 yrs and he is still on stock brake pads and tires. Nothing spent on this area so its all up to the rider as well as to how the bike is run and maintained.

Warranty is not applicable for second owner. Its clearly mentioned in the manual and this holds good for other vehicles too, not just for the ninja.

Oxymoron?! Considering the average cost of motorcycle maintenance.

Considering that the ninja costs more than some small cars, it really is not an Oxymoron.

For fairing he has claimed from insurance...and not for Disc plate...

Actually within 2000 KM he has to change the disc pad two times...when again third time the disc pad worn out..he went to SVC at kirti nagar...they said that disc plate need to change some due to an issue and because of this disc pad are worning out rapidly...

Get the steering cone set inspected as well.

I use a tailbag which rendered the rear tails on my ninja scratch prone (people call me paranoid ) so in the interim, since the 3M PPF was not available, I went to a sticker shop and got a carbon fiber sticker sheet cut and stuck on the rear tails. Was looking nice initially but as time passed the CF sheet started showing lots of bubbles and looked ugly.

But, the ugly duckling did what it was installed for - protect from scratches.

So when the 3M PPF was launched sometime back I promptly went to Auto Service in Blore and stripped the ugly duckling off my bike's rear tail panels and got the 3M ppf installed.

The CF stickering cost me 250 bucks for both sides whereas the 3M PPF cost me 1100/- for both sides. Expensive yes, but no glue, no mess and it is like installing a screen guard on your cell phone screen. Sticks without presence or need for any glue or soap solution and uses plain water and surface tension to stick and stay in place.

Time will tell how good this PPF is and how long lasting it is.
