    Ignition problem on pulsar 220sf

    hi guys!

I own a pulsar 220 sf bike and it was nice experience until it started developing some problems. First was it was refusing to self start and even after jump start. So i went to service center and done the following repair work done...

    [1] Valve tappets tweaks
[2] New spark plugs bajaj one not iridium
[3] Carburetor fully cleaned and tweaked
    [4] New battery Excide
[5] New engine oil (MAK Lubricants 4T Stallion API SL 20W-50 Engine Oil)

after all that bike now starts in one crank of self start...

yesterday when i was driving to home and as i reached half a km before home i.e after riding 15km stretch the bike stalled.
It was not self starting .... starts for one second and then shuts down
showed it to the local mechanic and he rectified the problem by saying there was some water in carburetor which he cleaned ... bike then started...

    .......HOWEVER.........

when i was midway between 15 km stretch and it was raining a bit, the my bike started showing some symptoms... bike was misfiring and was stalling and then coming back to life ... bike didn't shutdown however and idles OK, then i reached office... but i fear there could be some bigger issue with the bike ...

help me guys to rectify the problem...

Do yo think the CDI and the coils gone bad?

Water is the problem which your local mechanic has cleared, now ride for some days and see if the problem is solved, if its solved then no worries, if not then you Can get other things checked

the problem is the road stretch i drive has no mechanic shop in between 15 km, so if bike stalls and not starts then i have to drag the bike almost 6-7 km and then repair it... which is a nightmare ..

i want to rectify the problem and make sure it doesn't reappear in between the ride ...

I can understand, but I strongly believe it is a problem related to water in carb, have u filled the petrol in some new bunk or might be that carb must be clogged due to impurities over a long period of time. I've had same problem although on a different bike not 220 and once the carb was cleaned the bike became perfect and never had any issues

Get you fuel tank checked, maybe there is some water in it.
I also had the same problem before, in fact two times. First the bike would run perfect for some kms (I used to do 52 kms up and down) then would give hiccups, then it would stall and would not start.
Upon checking it came out that there was water in fuel tank. And this usually happens when your fuel level is low(say 2-3 lts), that's when the water comes in carb.

Yeah, i checked with local mechanic this morning again... there is some water accumulating in carburetor.. which he drained... now things seems OK...

i dont ride in reserve ... there is atleast 5 Lt of fuel in the tank...

i want to ask does carburetor separates water from petrol inside it?

    Nopes.
It has a very fine nozzle that sprays the fuel inside.
As pointed out by others, drain the remaining fuel and let it stand for a while till water and petrol separate.
    1. How old is your ride?
    2. Have you filled petrol on a rainy day?
    3. Have you changed the fuel pump recently and filled it from somewhere else?
