      CAUTION: THIS IS LONG LOG.

The idea of long solo trip was never conceived in my mind.. It was always there I don’t remember since when. After selling my Bullet 350 Std. I almost lost the hopes of any long rides coz the next bike I had was HH Hunk. It was a good bike, but my travellers thirst was increasing day by day. Which resulted me in buying Bajaj Avenger 220 2013 model. Bullet was not an option for buying again, because of the insane amount of waiting period (10 months in Bangalore) and the price is think is too high for what we get. Well here is little bit of history on how the ride came into picture.
After Avenger was bought, it was bought with travelling in mind, so was waiting eagerly to complete the run-in period. Decided the date for travelling, plan was to cover atleast 1500 Kms. Decided the route and started asking friends on who wants to come along. As always, everybody who I thought were riders, said no. Since it was a dream from a long long time, did not want to skip it after being so close. So, decided to move alone! Below is the map that I travelled.

      Day One: Time 0200 hrs..
Me: Boss, can I leave 2 hrs early?
Boss: No, as you already came 1 hr late today. (It was raining heavy in Bangalore).
Don’t want to ask him again, so kept quiet.
Time 0430 hrs: Asked my wife to make me a cup of strong black coffee, so that I can travel without any break. Had coffee, put on my gear, said good bye to my wife and left for the ride at 0500 hrs.

Priority was to reach wayanad at1000hrs, as I had appointment with doctor. The road was not that crowded, so had not much of problem in reaching wayanad. Got tyres filled with Nitrogen on the way. Reached Bandipur forest at 0900hrs, that was the most time consuming stretch. Reached Wayanad at 1015hrs. Started looking for a room, could not find as the previous day checkout was at 1200hrs. Decided to visit the doctor first and then look for the room later.

Got a room for 550 in a Home stay in Sulthan Bathery. One thing I would like thing I would like to mention about Sulthan Bathery, if you ever get to pass Sulthan Bathery, try Jubilee Restaurant (Its on the main Road on Sultha Bathery). It is best I guess in that place and at very reasonable prices. Got the Chain of the bike lubed (They charged 100RS :-o for that.) Wayanad was very hot and humid, initially I had a plan of roaming around in wayanad for a Day, but due to the weather, dropped the plan and to move on.

Day 2: Plan was to Get up early and to start early so that I can reach Gokarna in time. But As it never happens as planned, Woke up at 8 instead of 4 and started at 9 instead of 5 and by this time , I was done with breakfast (off-course from the Jubliee Resturant), had one of the best coffee and moved on. After crossing Sulthan Bathery, the route was a bliss. It was so good, that I almost forgot that I was driving and was about to go Down the hill. Braked the bike in time and just escaped a near end of trip before starting.

Highway on Western Ghats was really beautiful.

Initially, I kept on moving as per the plan, the route was really very beautiful, but the real nightmare started when I crossed, Ponnampet. The Road from PonnamPet to Virajpet was completely broken and could not drive more than 40KMHP at any given point (Frustrating). After Virajpet the road was still not very great. Passing through many villages, small single profile roads and broken as well at many places.
After reaching Puttur, the side box of the bike had come loose and nuts and bolts had fallen due to the bad roads. Stopped at Puttur, found some auto spares shop, took new Nuts and Bolts, screwed them again and changed the plan to continue and go towards Koppa and started towards Mangalore as it was a National Highway, thought the roads would be better and It was already 3.30 PM by then I guess (Time was running out).
Managed to cross Managlore after 5.00 PM. Stopped by Traffic Police outside Managlore (I guess due to my outfit).
Traffic Cop: Where are you coming from?
Me: Im coming from Bangalore via wayanad and going to Gokarna.
Cop: What is with all this stuff you have around your body?
Me: This is for protection, just incase some accident happens.
Cop: Show me the documents of the bike and your documents as well.
Me: They are in the bag, it took me half an hour to pack it and tie it. It will take a long time to find it and again pack it back.
Cop: No No, you have to show it. (He wanted to get some money I guess).
Me: Okay fine. (I hate people who want money. I would prefer to spend some time rather than giving some illegal money).
Showed them all the documents, since I was already in Karnataka state, they could not say anything and gave me a Go. But it took 45 minutes. 
Started to drive on Highway, but opposite to what I expected, there was construction going on the highway, and evening traffic was making it worse. Stopped at CCD before Kaup and had some refreshing drinks and two Chicken Sandwiches (did not have anything after breakfast) and got the bike as well refuelled. It was 7.00 PM already and I always avoid travelling in dark (People always drive on High beam specially guys with cars and Private Busses).
Decided to take a stop at Kaup Beach. Found a Hotel/Bar/Restaurant (Vaishali Hotel, it is behind Mayur Hotel on the Main Highway) and booked a AC Room for 700 Rs. Had some hard drinks, nice prawns and little bit of food and said good night to myself.

Day 3: Next Morning Went for beach planned to spend a day on Kaup beach and to my surprise, the beach was totally vacant isolated. Beautiful Beach and peaceful. Later I went near Lighthouse, there I found some people and Kachra as well. As it is said.. Where there is litter, there are people. Other than the Lighthouse, the beach was really very clean and peaceful (best beach).

Since there was nothing much to see on Kaup Beach, so planned to start for Gokarna instead of spending day here. Had lunch and started for Gokarna at 1.00 PM.
Next aprox 100+ Kms the Highway was still in the same under construction and take diversion boards condition (Angry).
Roads was almost in the same condition till Batkal I guess ( I dont remember extactly) after which road was really good.
On the way there was a small stretch of road along side of sea beach which was really beautiful.

In between some place, saw mining going on. Thought of giving my bike a little off-road cum Power test. It was a powdered dust sort of road and more than 45 degree . I really really liked the way the bike climbed and I never felt little bit of threat to stability and lack of power, but the chain and every thing including me got dust covered (but it was really fun). Clicked some pics and while climbing down, I remembered all the stories of Avenger getting slipped while braking and had a little bit of fear in my mind. But, not once, I repeat, not once the bike slipped an inch from where I asked it to stop.

This mining was more than 100 mtrs high.. You can compare it with the man standing at the bottom left corner. as a scale..

Crossing bridge from Honavar was a beautiful sight

After that my only destination was to reach Gokarna. Reached Gokarna at around 6.30 PM. Booked a room in some lodge near SBI bank.. Booked a nice room for 450/night. Had dinner went to have a look for gokarna Sea beach and say good night to myself.
      View from my Hotel Room

Day 4: Woke up around 8.00 AM, went to Gokarna Sea beach. Had breakfast near sea beach (Prema Restaurant) and went to see OM beach.
Did some swimming in OM beach, plucked some wild fruits and ate for the first time (without asking anyone, trial and error method). One of them was of Jamun size and color and tasted like mango and was yellow inside (Not sure of the name, I called it Jango lolz).

      GOKARNA BEACH

Jelly fish i guess.. but dead

      KUDLAI BEACH

      OM BEACH

Came back to the room, was really tired because of swimming and climbing stairs after that (Diabetic people.. get tired bit quicker).
Came to the, had some rest, went for a bare foot long walk on Gokarna beach in the afternoon with sea waves touching my feet (Always wanted to do that).

Day 5: This time, I wokeup early at 4:00 AM. Got ready, packed my stuff and rolled at 5.00.. Before Honavar there is a right turn that goes towards Jog Falls. Took the turn and almost immediately the geography changed.
What an awesome weather, 6.45 Am I was already on Honavar – Jog highway. What an awesome, curvy, peaceful road. This is one of the best road I have seen. Kept on stopping on different places to enjoy the beauty of nature. Really un-touched Forest and so peaceful and green.

Reached Jog Falls view point at around 8.00 Am was some Govt. Guest house. Had Breakfast and saw falls, clicked some pics and moved from there at around 9.00.

After that, Forest started ending and civilization became more and more evident.
Took couple of breaks in between and was trying to cover the distance as fast as possible.
Last day, I covered more than 500 Kms of distance in 11 hrs. Reached home at around 4.00.
Was cruising bike in between 80-100 Kmph on which me an bike both were happy.

Last day was the day of Sores on buttocks which made the ride little bit painful. But overall, the ride was really amazing, saw some really beautiful places and worst roads. I was really sadden by Plastic, paper plates and littering remains in beautiful places like Sea beaches and Forest. My sincere request to all my fellow riders. Please ride and where ever we go, lets pledge to not to throw litter and specially plastic/ non-biodegradable remains and lets keep our planet as clean as possible so that future generations can also enjoy riding as we do.
Last.. thx to my wife who supported me to go for it..

I don't think so.. BAL is more int. in sports bikes than on cruisers.. which is kinda bad though..

Hello Dimpy! Lovely pictures. So I am sure you have developed a good relationship or rather 'chemistry' with your Avenger. Few Qs for you bro-

                  * Did you have any trouble with the bike?
                  * Did you take any tools with you/what kind of packing did you do?
                  * What did you do to keep yourself excited all through?

Trying to take some tips as I am planning to do a solo (I enjoy my privacy a lot especially with my bike and car).

I don't actually do a lot of night riding.. in fact I avoid riding at night. so for me.. not much use of headlamp though... but.. I had installed it on my RE 350 once.. It does not make much of a difference or to put it in right words.. you won't notice the difference.. I m not sure.. if Avenger can be fitted with projector lamps.

That is again informative. I own an Avenger 200 recently acquired. The engine has been rebuilt. So waiting for completion of run in until which I'm doing few cosmetic modifications.

EDIT: I remember few of them trying to install a Royal Enfield exhaust to Bajaj Avenger. I am looking for the mild beat (the one that comes in Classic 350). Can somebody point the correct thread?

                                1. There is no need to change oil. Use the watch glass to check levels.
                                2. No other special check is needed. Check the air pressure in both tyres.
                                3. Not an absolute necessity. If your trip is not urgent, give it 2-3 days gap.
