Default Fourth Leg of Yamaha R15 One Make Race rounds off in style

R Deepak ruled the roost by winning both the races in the expert section

Chennai, September 8, 2010: With the Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship nearing its end with just one round to go, the fourth leg of the league concluded at the Madras Motor Race Track, Chennai with bikers blazing the track with gusto and thrill reloaded. The racing track was set abuzz with roaring excitement as hordes of youngsters turned up to witness three days of biking expertise shown by the participants. Yamaha had organized this championship as part of SIDVIN-FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2010. This year, Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship was open to participation from both Yamaha and Non-Yamaha customers.

G.R. Santosh emerged the winner in Race 1 in the novice category while Bharat Raj J and Sai Kishore bagged the second and third spot respectively. In Race 2 of the same category, Arun J Pillai took the first spot, G R Santosh grabbed the second and Bharat Raj J captured the third position. R Deepak stole the show by winning both races in the expert section. Sudhakar Kesavan came second in Race 1 in the expert section while D. Dinesh Kumar came third. D. Dinesh Kumar showed his dexterity and came second in Race 2 of this category and Shayam Shankar took the third position in the podium.

The contestants struck the track on Yamaha’s Super Sports YZF-R15 and experienced the breathtaking acceleration of the bike on a race circuit. Loaded with true Yamaha racing DNA, YZF-R15 provided complete racing experience to the biking enthusiasts and hands on feel of its power, stability, cornering and braking. Yamaha made their experience more exciting by mounting Daytona Racing Kits in the bikes. These kits are developed using valuable experience gained from MotoGP & World Superbike racing and are designed exclusively for racing purpose in a closed circuit.

The technology in YZF-R15 has percolated from R1 (Delta box frame/Fuel Injection/6 speed gearbox/styling/Liquid Cooled 4V engine). Just like R1, it is light weight, has power on demand, besides having centralized mass, stopping power, aerodynamics, ergonomics and stability/rigidity, among others. It has the controllability and maneuverability to maximize riding/cornering/braking performance.

All the riders participating in Yamaha R15 One Make Race Championship will be evaluated till the fourth Round on the basis of their performance. The best performing riders (One from each Class: 1 - NOVICE & 1 – EXPERT) would be given a chance to participate in the “YAMAHA ASEAN CUP RACE” to be held in Malaysia later in 2010. Talented Riders can further get a chance to compete in “ASIA ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE 600cc Class” based on their performance in Yamaha ASEAN Cup Race-2010. Rider selected based on his performance in the Asia Road Race Championship 600cc Class can make his Life Time Dream come true as he could get a chance to participate in the Grand Prix.

Yamaha’s Corporate culture has always given special importance to bike racing in India as a way of expressing the ‘spirit of challenge’ that it values so highly. Earlier, the Racing Ride-tech Challenge events have proved to be very successful in their aim of inculcating the racing spirit as well promote safe biking culture in the country. Now, with R15 One Make Race, Yamaha aims to take the racing culture and spirit in India to the next level.
