Default National Supercross Champion CS Santosh to compete in World CrossCountry Championship

CS Santosh from Bangalore who is a multiple National Supercross and Dirt Track Champion has now set his sights on the World Cross Country Rally Championship which starts in Abu Dhabi on the 4th of April and then to the second round in Qatar on the 21st of April.

This is the first time an Indian will be at the Abu Dhabi desert challenge and with his recent victory at the 14th Raid De Himalaya Santosh will be looking to break inside the top 20 in his first ever outing at the World Cross Country Rally Championship.

Although a lot of press has followed after the big win at the Raid De Himalaya it is not something that has happened overnight. Santosh has been racing for a decade now and has won titles across all platforms from Supercross/ Motocross to Dirt track and Rally. He is also the highest finisher from India at the Asian Motocross Championship with his best finish being 4th in 2008.

Santosh is now all set to take on the ultimate adventure, the road to Dakar. He intends to for the next 2 years be actively riding the World Cross Country Rally Championship and gather enough good finishes to take on the Dakar rally in the year 2015. Considering his achievements in the recent past, it would be hard to bet against him as he takes on the rest of the world flying the Indian flag.

This would not have been possible without the support of FMSCI, Pro Bikes Dubai, MP1, Mercureal Sports, Community Partner xBhp and his family and friends, his dedication means countless hours of training on and off the bike, he has also gone that extra mile as he recently spent a week in America with Dakar Rally winner Jimmy Lewis in Nevada doing navigation training.

We can only be proud to say that this foray of CS Santosh will only bring positives to the Indian motor cycle scene and this beginning will invariably open up doors for a lot of the young talented Indian riders in the near future and consolidate India's emergence in the world of motorsports on two wheels.

India's best off-road rider C S Santosh is all set to make his debut in the FIM World Cross Country championship which kicks off across the desert sands in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge will mark Santosh's first international rally raid attempt, coming on the back of his dominating victory at the gruelling Raid De Himalaya on his debut in October last year.
With all Dakar teams and riders using the event to test new equipment, the multiple Indian motocross and supercross champion will be up against some exemplary competition, including multiple-Dakar winner Marc Coma.

Therefore, expectations are far more modest in terms of results this time around, with Santosh hoping to break into the top 20 classification amongst a field of 61 riders. As part of preparations for his cross country debut, Santosh had spent a week with Dakar winner Jimmy Lewis in Nevada, USA in March, learning navigation training a key element in motorcycle cross-country rallying.
Finally, all that work came to fruition as Santosh got his first taste of cross-country machinery on Wednesday, and it turned out to be quite a contrast from his extensive experience aboard nimbler MX/SX machinery.

    CS Santosh -

"This bike is a lot heavier compared to anything else I've ridden before, as it carries a huge rear-mounted fuel tank and navigation equipment up front. But despite the weight it is really powerful so there is a lot of momentum, which is what I need to get used to at the moment
I am really excited and nervous and everything in between.
I have been talking to many competitors over here and they say it is a very long and hard rally, so I cant wait to get started!
The action kicks off on 6th April with a Super Special (Prologue) in Abu Dhabi followed by the first stage on the next day, which is flagged off from the Yas Marina Circuit. The 290-kilometer stage will take the riders to Liwa, which will also act as the location of the bivouac (camp site) for the next four days of competition.

The fifth stage on April 11 the final day of the rally will take the riders back from the desert to the Yas Marina Circuit, having covered nearly 2,000 km.

With an aim to participate in the Dakar in 2015, Santosh intends to compete in the World Cross Country Rally Championship for the next two seasons and amass enough experience and support to consider taking on the worlds biggest motorsport challenge.

    Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge schedule

4th April: Documentation & press conference in Abu Dhabi
5th April: Scrutineering in Abu Dhabi
6th April: Super Special Stage in Abu Dhabi
7th April: 1st stage (Yas Marina Circuit Liwa)
    8th April: 2nd stage (Liwa)
    9th April: 3rd stage (Liwa)
    10th April: 4th stage (Liwa)
11th April: 5th stage (Liwa Yas Marina Circuit)

I think he is doing good enough in Bangalore :P Delhi ja ke kya karega?
He is racing since I think 10 years and winning so many events. We need a nicely organized Motocross event in India, M sure we are not short of riders.

    Cheers Santosh!
Be the change you want to see in other Riders!
