Default Dakar Rally Stage 7 Update

Saturday 10th was observed as a rest day for motorcycles and quad bikes.

Team HRC\'s Paulo Goncalves makes his 1st stage victory during the Stage 7 in Dakar 2015. Red Bull KTM’s Marc Coma finished 2nd, just 14 seconds after the Honda rider while Coma’s teammate, Matthias Walkner, crossed the line in third.

    Paulo Goncalves, Team HRC said:
“This stage was great, I started in the front, and that’s always difficult as it’s very easy to lose time as you open the road. I pushed very hard, to stay at the front of the race. I’m very happy, of course, with my result today. I never stopped pushing until the finish. This stage was very hard, mud, stones, and many bumps, unbelievably hard, but I won it and that’s great.”
Team Sherco TVS Rider Alain Duclos managed to finish 7th with overall ranking at 9th Place while the other rider Fabian Planet finished 19th.

CS Santosh finished the Stage 7 at 66th Place on the timing sheet. Team HRC’s Joan Barreda continues to hold the overall lead but Coma is just six and a half minutes behind.

THE STAGE OF THE DAY: IQUIQUE - CALAMA
    Stage N9
Connection: 88 km Special Stage : 450 km

For this farewell session to the Atacama Desert, all the competitors will come together once again for the special stage, with fifty-odd kilometres over sand and dunes. They should revel in these sensations because the next stage will put both drivers and their teams into much less comfortable positions. The routes have suffered the rages of time and will be equally harsh on them.

    TVS Racing Report -

One day is definitely not like another!

Far from us to rejoice in the misfortune of others, but we thought yesterday that we had escaped the worst day for man and machine. However today we suffered our worst day of the race. Despite the care the motorcycles receive from the mechanics last night Alain suffered today.

Salt is a corrosive invader, it was Alain who was forced to stop today in the middle of the stage, at kilometer 258! He was struggling to repair the bike and leave as fast as he could, when he was joined by his team-mate Fabien Planet who did not hesitate a second to \\\"sacrifice his ranking\\\" to stop and help Alain repair the bike. This is also and above all, the spirit of Dakar: mutual aid and solidarity in a team, sometimes to the detriment of ones personal ambition!

This breakdown has resulted in destroying any hope of a high finish, let alone a podium for either rider. The goal now is to reach the bivouac in Calama and be ready for the start of the second marathon stage tomorrow!

There are still four races to finish, in every sense of the word, before they reach Buenos Aires and the finishing podium which is coveted by all the competitors racing in the Dakar. Many will not have the chance to tread the sacred boards, but we bet that by Saturday, both riders will still dazzle us with their exploits and their enthusiasm to bring the colors of Team Sherco TVS to the end of this amazing adventure...
KTM\'s Marc Coma rode a steady race to hold on to his first place in the rally, but Goncalves on the Honda cut down the gap to five and a half seconds. TVS Sherco rider Alain Duclos was hit by technical problems and ended the hopes of the Indian manufacturer\'s top ten finish now in 22nd place after stage 9. His teammate Fabien Planet stopped to help him out during the stage and himself dropped into 32nd position as a result. India\'s maiden Dakar rider CS Santosh rode a strong day to maintain his 42nd position overall on board his KTM.
