Now, the races that every aspiring racer looks forward to, are the National Championships. In India, we have the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motor Cycle Racing Championship which is for road racing. Then we have MMSC FMSCI Indian National 2W Drag Championship for drag racing. Off the tarmac we have championships for Supercross and Dirt Track and Rallies as well namely, MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Supercross Championship, 2w Dirt Track National Championship and MRF MOGRIP FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship respectively. In addition to that, there are a lot of manufacturer and club-specific activities that populate the motorcycle racing calendar of India. (We are going to be discussing the 2019 calendar so the details that follow are according to FMSCI).
The first National Championship of motorcycle racing that we are going to touch is the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motor Cycle Racing Championship. Contested over 5 rounds throughout the year, this championships takes the riders to all 3 racetracks of India; Kari Motor Speedway, Madras Motor Race Track and Buddh International Circuit.
Following are the classes in which the participants compete:
- 4 Stroke Stock up to 165cc Girls
- 4 Stroke Stock up to 165cc Novice up to 23 years of age
- 4 Stroke Pro Stock up to 165cc Open,
- 4 Stroke Pro Stock 201 – 300cc Open
- 4 Stroke Pro Stock 301 – 400cc Open
- 4 Stroke Super Sport Indian up to 165cc Open
MMSC FMSCI Indian National 2W Drag Championship is the other National Championship that takes place on tarmac. All the details regarding this event are yet to be announced.
The next one, MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Rally Championship 2W, takes us off the tarmac and the classes are as follows:
- Class 1: Super Bike (Pro Expert) Group A
- Class 1A: Super Bike (Expert) Class Group A
- Class 2: SuperSport 130 Group B
- Class 3: SuperSport 165 Group B
- Class 4: SuperSport 260 Group B
- Class 5: SuperSport 400 Group B
- Class 6: SuperSport 550 Group B
- Class 7: Group “B” S0 to S3 Scooters up to 210cc (S0 to S3)
- Class 8: Group “B” Ladies Class (Open Indian Motorcycles)
After that, we also have a Supercross National Championship known as MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Supercross Championship and the classes are:
- Group A, SX1, up to 250cc/500cc
- Group C, Novice, up to 260cc
- Indian experts, Group C, up to 260cc
- Private Experts, Group C, up to 260cc
- Group A, SX2, up to 250cc/500cc
- JR SX 1 “A/B/C” TBA
- JR SX 2 “A/B/C” TBA
The last but not the least is the 2w Dirt Track National Championship. Following are the classes based on which the participants in this event are divided:
- Open/Expert – Motorcycles Up to 500cc, Group A, Class A2 to A3, 2&4 Stroke
- Intermediate – Motorcycles Up to 500cc, Group A, Class A2 To A3, 2&4 Stroke
- Novice-Motorcycles Up to 260cc, Group C, Class M1 To M4, 4 Stroke
- Open /Expert – Motorcycles Up to 260cc, Group C, Class M1 – M4 4 Stroke
- Open /Expert – Motorcycles Up to 125cc, Group C, Class M1 – M4 4 Stroke
- Open /Expert – Motorcycles Up to 260cc, Group B, Class M1 – M4, 4 Stroke
- Scooters – Up to 160CC – Group B, 2&4 Stroke
- Women's Motorcycle – Up to 260cc, Group C, Class M1 To M4, 4 Stroke
- Kids Junior – Motorcycles Up to 260cc, Group A, Class M1 To M4, 2&4 Stroke
