This might send the hero honda share prices tumbling next week when the market opens.

I'm afraid I'm smelling the downfall of HH's market dominance !
From variable Bhps to a constant 17.6 Bhp.

HH will keep going for some time by banking on the ubiquitous 100cc engines. This may even force them to set up their own R&D for engines etc.
It's not that they are completely helpless, they make a fair number of parts for BMW/H-D/Rotax. This could turn out to be a good thing.

They should sell the full stake and invest it in Honda India and take HH head-on.

Dont think so. They carrying a good momentum with them. HH was not all about Honda you see. So a bye-bye-Honda wont create a holocaust for HH. Ya once Honda divert energies to HMIL, competetion will get tough for "Hero India Motors Pvt Ltd" []. Bajaj also parted their ways with Kawasaki and see where are they today. It would however be interesting to see the new product mix from the company.

yups. This could turn to be good thing for them. And as a option they can always purchase engines directly from Honda for few more years

Honda concentrating only on HMIL would be good for competition for sure

HH is not Bajaj, R&D-wise. They are having one of the lowest investments in it in India !

So it would make times difficult for them !
