Default Ducati Monster 795 Coming to India: xBhp News

It’s hard to imagine how Ducati could cram another Monster into its air-cooled street-naked line-up, let alone update the fairly fresh models already in the brand’s arsenal, yet monster.ducati.com is teasing some sort of unveiling, due out in two weeks’ time. There is not a terrible amount of information that we can glean from the tight-stretched cover over the photo Ducati is using (the exhaust can appears to be high-mounted like the 696/796, unlike the 1100 EVO), and the timing and the location for the unveil are interesting to say the least.
We have to admit we’re caught a bit off-guard about this one, and will have to reach out to our spies to see what info we can get on this revelation. Until we hear back, our best guess would be a region-specific version of the Monster that is more well-suited for riding in Southeast Asia, presumably in the 200cc-400cc engine capacity range. But again, that’s purely a guess, and it could be something as innocuous as Monster Art/Replica unveil, or better yet an EVO update for the two smaller Monsters. We’d expect those at EICMA though, so well…stay tuned.

    This might be interesting!

Affordable Ducati Monster coming - News - Autocar India

"Ducati’s first serious bid to tap into the booming Indian market is expected to come as quickly as within October 2011, with the launch of a new, affordable Monster, the world’s best known naked motorcycle.

Dubbed the 795, this Monster will cost significantly lower than a Monster 796 already available in India. As suggested by the name, the 795 will retain all the 796’s Monster DNA, tweaked to play its new role and bring the brand within closer reach of Indian power bikers. The 795 will benefit lower import duties for being manufactured at Ducati’s new Thailand factory that goes live shortly. Don’t however think of this as a cheap Ducati, for the 795 will retain Ducati quality standards as it fluently speaks Monster language, be this in terms of design, engineering or performance.

The L-twin, air-cooled and twin-valve engine is expected to sport shortstroke dimensions, a Desmodromic valve train, and perhaps lower power output than 87bhp currently offered by the 796. Although torque and engine character will remain strong, we do hope Ducati is able to gear the new bike to suit our region, for the 796 suffers tall gear ratios that make it less than ideal to ride in Indian conditions. Keeping its famous Italian genetics alive, powerplants for the new Monster will be made at Ducati HQ, Bologna, from where they will be sent to Thailand for assembly. Expect a trellis frame with a dual side swingarm on the Monster 795 instead of the 796’s single-side swingarm.

The Monster 795 is rumoured to be unveiled alongside the Malaysian MotoGP, October 20-21, a fitting venue for this ‘Asian market’ model. We speculate 795 pricing for India will slot in somewhere close to the Rs 5 lakh vicinity, when it reaches India by early 2012."

I was interested in this before the 796 booking but the dealer said we will never see it before next year and the specs may take a beating. And besides, at that point of time (March 11), the set up was just in progress and the launch date was anybody's guess.

If it comes here, would be a great move by Ducati

Edit - OTOH, it may also be the new Monster 1100EVO which is very much in the pipeline...

Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. And most of them are full of shit.

If its expected to be unvieled at the Malaysian GP I could catch it first hand.
Would love to see what Ducati has in store for India.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.
