    Default Drive with a difference

Newly-elected corporator Milind Kachi lands up for mayoral elections on his 1800 cc Honda Goldwing superbike much to the surprise of elected representatives and political workers

Kachi had used his Suzuki Intruder during the campaign in his ward area for recently concluded civic elections. His superbikes are a big draw among children
On Thursday Guruwar Peth corporator Milind Kachi reached the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to vote for the mayoral elections with a difference that left everyone present awestruck. While fellow elected-representatives preferred luxury cars to reach the venue, Kachi came on his 1800 cc Honda Goldwing donning a kurta and a dhoti with black shades on.

Newly-elected corporators, who were standing outside the PMC, took a pause to figure out the man on the superbike. As they took their eyes off the super machine, they realised it was one among them who had come to cast his vote.

Kachi (45) made his arrival even more interesting with a Hollywood inspired look — black sunglasses and a shaven head. Speaking to Mirror, Kachi said, “I like superbikes . Cars have become quite common, but superbikes are still rare in the city. I feel good when people notice me and ask a lot of questions.”

He said the city does not have roads for these bikes and he take them out only when the traffic is thin. “Sometimes people, especially auto drivers, ask me whether I have modified a bike or fitted four engines to an ordinary bike,” he said.

Further he said children in the city are quite excited about his bikes. “Kids are fond of these bikes. They keep requesting me on Facebook to show them my bikes. I called up my friends who also have such bikes and had organised a ride for the kids on Thursday. I am a social worker but I am famous among children for my bikes in the city,” he said.

For the last 150 years, Kachi’s forefathers have been engaged in onion and potato business at Market Yard. When Kachi joined the family trade in 1991, he had a 50cc M50 bike.

However, today he is a proud owner of four powerbikes -- Yamaha MT01, Honda Goldwing, Suzuki Intruder and V-max. Among the four, he is fond of Intruder.

Kachi nurtured his hobby by first buying a 125 cc Tram in 1995. Later he switched to a 350 cc Yamaha bike. He also tried Yamaha’s dirt bike. During rainy season Kachi uses his old fiat or Mahindra 4x4 jeep. He is always on the look out for latest models. When he finds and interesting bike he buys it and uses for a year or two and sell to someone who can maintain the bike.

Every year Kachi visits Goa for a week and takes all his bikes in a commercial vehicle to show off his possession to tourists, especially foreigners.

That is all fine, but, he could've used a little brain to wear a helmet instead of that goggles!!!

If we have social workers like him. Do hell with the system. Im not talking about the helmet. About his earnings. Its not hard to guess how well he would be "serving" the people.

This is Pune. People will throw you out of window if you force them to wear helmet. And corporators don't have brain to save one.

Anyway I kinda like this corporator, he's a cool dude.

every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

I saw many bikers wearing helmets when I was in Pune. Its not about Pune vs other place. Its more about sense & understanding vs the lack of it.

At least we all have hair to "slightly" reduce the impact, when we crash. This guy has stripped off his natural protection as well! Its like he's thinking "If I crash, I must die otherwise I'll be a liability on the hospital staff."

Let's hope he makes it through life and towards old age, in one piece. No big offence to him though.
