Talking Harley Davidson India to set up a new Dealership in Panjim, Goa.

Harley Davidson India to set up a new Dealership in Panjim, Goa.

For quite a period now, Harley Davidson India was reported to be inviting dealerships for Kochi, Raipur, Jaipur, Nagpur, Goa, Indore/ Bhopal and Lucknow. Apparently, the Goa dealership is not far away.

Also, HD is believed to be working on a low cost motorcycle that will retain much of the HD charisma. More on that below:

Goa could be the latest destination for American lifestyle motorcycle maker Harley Davidson. The brand, which already has eight dealerships in India could add Goa as the next location in the country. Harley Davidson is looking to set up its dealership in Goas capital city, Panjim. The dealership, apart from displaying, selling ad servicing motorcycles, will also sell a range of branded accessories, just like the other Harley Davidson dealerships in India. Also, Harley Davidson will sell its entire Indian model line up through the Goa dealership, which is expected to come up in the next couple of months.

Goa, while being one of the smallest Indian states, is a touristy destination that attracts tourists from all across the world, to its sun kissed beaches and lush green mountains. The state, being mineral rich, especially in iron ore and manganese, is also quite prosperous. Due to these factors, there is a growing affluence in the state, due to which lifestyle brands could sell their wares in decent numbers. Harley Davidson, being one such iconic lifestyle brand is therefore making its way into Goa, before other big brands follow suit. Garware-Hyosung already has a dealership up and running at Goa and Ducati is said to follow soon after.

Notably, Harley Davidson is said to be developing a low cost motorcycle for the Indian and other emerging motorcycle markets. This motorcycle will be priced very competitively and is anticipated to use plenty of made-in-India parts to keep costs low. Also, this motorcycle is expected to retain all the core traits that has come to make the Harley Davidson brand the icon it is. Harleys move comes at a time when the likes of Triumph, Ducati and KTM are all coming up with low cost options targeted at the emerging markets, which are said to be the locations from where future sales growth will come from.

Guys, what's your say on the low cost motorcycle from HD?

My say is that they have to be very careful with their moves, coz it can backfire. If they want to make a 883cc bike with somewhat lesser expensive components, for low cost, like Ducati did with 795, then its great... It will retain premium appeal and pricing anyways.

But if they're going into the low capacity segment, like below 600cc or 400cc cruisers, somewhat in the league of RE, then they should use a separate brand name for the purpose.
Even Brembo, Audi, etc. have a separate brand name, for low end products. Rajiv Bajaj is also working on the same long term strategy.

u have a valid point, but low capacity does not always mean low cost and low cost does not always mean low capacity.

and if its low capacity and low cost, still it won't scare away potential customers from premium HD bike. atleast i think so.
