Default Kawasaki to launch Ninja 300R & 400R

A spreadsheet from the United States Environmental Protection Agency listing 2013 motorcycle certification data includes information about new an all-new Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Ninja 400R, while also confirming reports the new ZX-6R will return to a 636cc engine displacement.

Appearing on the EPA’s spreadsheet doesn’t necessarily mean these models will be introduced to the U.S. market however. The Kawasaki Ninja 400R was included in a similar document for 2012 but was never introduced. The 2013 document does not include a Ninja 250 (pictured above) which was recently updated for other markets, so it is likely to be replaced by the new Ninja 300.

According to the EPA document, the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 will be powered by a fuel-injected 296cc four-valve twin-cylinder engine. Power is listed at 29 kW (which translates to 39hp) at 11,000 rpm.The documents lists both an ABS and a non-ABS version.
The document doesn’t describe the styling, but it’s likely the Ninja 300 will resemble the recently re-designed 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 250.
The Ninja 400R however may not be likely to hit the market. As mentioned, the 400R was listed in the 2012 documents but to this date has only been available in Japan and Canada. The 400R is more or less a smaller-displacement version of the pre-2012 Ninja 650. The fuel-injected 399cc Twin is listed as producing 43 hp at 9500 rpm. It seems unlikely however Kawasaki will bring both a 300 and a 400 to the U.S. at the same time.

The EPA spreadsheet lists the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R as having a 636cc four-cylinder engine, confirming previous reports of a return to the larger displacement. The new engine is listed as producing 129 hp at 13,500 rpm. The documents do not include a smaller-displacement version to meet supersport racing homologation rules so a 599cc ZX-6RR may not be coming.
We’ve contacted Kawasaki for a comment. We will update this post when we receive a response.

    Topic Approved.

Everything points out towards the fact that Kawasaki are focusing on the road and on the money. And its a win-win for mostly all involved, except the professional racers.

    1. Not everyone is going into a racetrack all the time.
    2. Even if they go, what's stopping them from enjoying a 636? They can enjoy it as far as they're not into some competition.

Today, on a road, I would rather be riding a 636 instead of a 599. And a 300 instead of 250, if the kerb weight and racing focus is the same. In fact, I would tell them to go ahead with a ZX 11R if that's possible with the same focus (being fast).

I know speed limits and all, but a good biker always finds the right road to mate his bike with.

I have a wild guess that even this 400R is based on the 650R, like the earlier 400R.
And the 300R could be outbored from the 250R.

So, it might actually mean that 400R MIGHT be the one we'll get, since it may be very similar to 2013 Ninja 650R. So, some parts sharing might actually help them out SLIGHTLY, with the pricing for both the bikes... ? And the 650 is here in India already. Although, when the 650R is such highly priced, we can't expect 400R to be very economical.

But, there's no official confirmation, which means that so far, this news is just an important "international news" for all of us.

However Bajaj have overruled probability of 400 during 2012 650 launch. They said its for specific markets to suit laws of those markets.

400 a trim down of 650 will not make business sense for Bajaj, Ninja 250R, Pulsar 350 NS/FS , Duke 350 , Ninja 400, Ninja 650. That line-up looks unnecessarily complex I think.

you may be correct, afterall there has to be a market for a product to be launched, if ninja400 eats into ninja650 market, then its not much sense.

the indian performance bike market is growing but may not be at this frantic pace.

Its confirmed that we will be able to see the Kawasaki 300 in Indian market around Mid of 2013 as they plan to take out the 250 which is currently in the market.
