Kenan Sofuoglu and Fabien Foret of Mahi Racing Team India recently visited the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
xBhp got a chance to catch up with reigning Supersport Champion Sofuoglu and former champion Foret. Group of Delhi Superbikers (GODS) members were there as well to welcome the Champions to the team's home track.
Mahi Racing is the first Indian Team in World Super Sport, they are running Kawasaki Factory bikes, the ZX-6R. The team is very professional and with full factory support Kenan won the opening round of the season at Philip Island. While Fabien finished a strong fourth.
Bikers are bikers, whether they race bikes at 300kmph or do stunts. They are a different breed, who are easily recognised by their humility. And these two racers were no different. They both entered the pit lane in the most casual manner imaginable. Carrying their own bags, while talking and smiling cheerfully. A breath of fresh air compared to the hi-flying sports persons we get to see here.
The two riders got a lap around the circuit in a Mercedes at speeds which can at best be described pedestrian in comparison to what the two are used to! FIM regulations do not allow the riders to ride at a homologated track unofficially. So a drive around the track had to suffice!
A select number of bikers got a session around the track, to showcase India's Superbiking level. Both the bikers were extremely impressed with the level of passion and commitment of xBhp and the people who had congregated there to meet them.
Fabien Foret who is French, spoke about how he was enjoying Indian food and he wouldn't mind trying out a few Indian recipes! He also spoke about being teammates with an extremely aggressive Kenan and how he intended to tackle him during the season.
The racer from Turkey, Kenan, spoke about how he faced a lot of difficulties because of starting his career in a country where the sport is not popular and how he had to shift residence to Germany to further his career. He also mentioned that Sam Lowes is going to be his biggest competitor for the 2013 season.
The event gave a wonderful opportunity to the fans to meet their racing idols and for the racers to interact with the passionate fans of this country. We look forward to watching the race live in November at Buddh International Circuit and cheering the Indian Team.
