Default Triumph to start India sales soon: xBhp News

Source : Triumph gears up for India ops with a change in plans - Livemint

Triumph Motorcycles, the British company which sells the iconic Thunderbird, Daytona 675 and Speed Triple bikes, will start selling in India in September after a change in its manufacturing plans, three people familiar with the plan said.

According to the new plan, Triumph Motorcycles will start assembling completely knocked-down (CKD) kits at a factory in the Gurgaon-Manesar area in Haryana, a departure from its earlier plan to build a factory at Narsapura, near Bangalore.
The company’s manufacturing plans in Karnataka will be implemented later, two of the three people cited above said. It is, however, unclear whether the company has bought land in Haryana to start an assembly plant or it will use the manufacturing facilities of a vendor.
“They want to test the Indian market. The Gurgaon-Manesar belt will act as a stepping stone,” one of the three people familiar with the matter said. “At Narsapura, a full-fledged manufacturing facility will come up in 2015.”

Official Update from Triumph on the matter : Operations to begin from November. (Update link on Page 3)

Doesnt it seem like a step backward by triumph. They are pushing the implementation of a manufacturing plant in Karnataka and are now concentrating solely on assembly. While the Karnataka plant would also have done that it was also the hope for a smaller affordable triumph.

This is one the best news I have read in a long time. I really hope the CKD plan for the model line-up stays the same and also includes the XC series. My Bonnie dream seems to be coming closer to reality now...

it is good that they are starting their operations in india.

but it is not so good that they will not be manufacturing right away.

let us hope that they get good response while they are "testing the waters" here, so that manufacturing plans can proceed as planned.

btw, which models will be available for sale by CKD route and at what prices, which are the cities they will be targetting for sales and service network.

the Karnataka plant is expected to be fully operational from 2015. till then they would only assemble the bikes.
the prices would be too steep

getting from thailand & assembling it here would still be cheaper

I for one am happy that they are assembling & not getting into manufacturing just as yet
