Smile Bajaj Pulsar's 2 Super Sport motorcycles: xBhp News

Bajaj preparing 2 "Super Sports" motorcycles under the Pulsar Brand.

We are all aware of P200NS and the reason why many reject it in the real market out there. Yes, the fairing. When compared to a R15 or CBR 150R for example, "GO" is another factor but generally it loses hands down on the "SHOW" factor. This might soon change as Mr. Rajiv Bajaj disclosed that two new super sports motorcycle under the Pulsar brand would be launched in a couple of months to boost sales. Both these bikes would come in fully-faired form for better aerodynamics, good looks and they both would be the fastest bikes in their segments.
Speaking to shareholders during the companys annual general meeting, he said Pulsar is number one sports bike in its category in India and we will launch two super sports bikes under this brand by the middle of this financial year.

Now, the definition of Supersports bikes in India, is not the same as it is in Saturated Markets. Here, anything that goes fast is supersports. How fast you ask? That's another dark concept. Leaving the terminologies aside, I believe Pulsar 375 could be one of these "SuperSports".

This nation has developed a love for high speeds, and the role of Fibre in it, specially, the newer generation. So, that leaves us with the Duke 200/ Pulsar 200 NS engine which despite being a rev-happy engine, has not appeared on road in a full faired guise. And Xbhp veterans might remember me saying that, "Without a full fairing and proper gearing, the Duke 200's engine is not being completely utilised."

So, Will there be a 200 SS now? Tough to answer conclusively, but if I was Bajaj, I would've gone for this only. Doesn't it seem logical? Not the entire nation needs hairdryers with a seat, nor a good looking turtle either. A 200SS might just do the trick. Adding a fairing to an existing bike might increase its top end, by 5-8 kmph (unless it touches any kind of "limiter" already). This could easily be the "fastest in its segment".

And if this is true, this could be a big blow to the CBR and R15. Duke was also a threat, but a faired 200SS might just not leave an excuse...

As I type this, TVS remains the only Major Indian Manufacturer not to offer a Full-faired bike to the public. And, Mahindra 2 Wheelers. And Bajaj has two of them, except that both are imported under a different brand, and above what you would call "a typical motorcycle budget". Could these 2 bikes be the "missing colors" of Bajaj Auto's Rainbow? Only time will tell.

A full faired 200 cc Pulsar doesn't make sense to me.. and that not Mr. Bajaj's style.

If there indeed are 2 full faired Pulsars then apart from the big 375 cc there could be a 300 cc variant. A 300 cc full faired could kill 3 birds (R15, CBBR150R and CBR250R) with a single stone (300 cc Full Faired Pulsar).

The big Full Faired Pulsar can remain the unchallenged "Desi Dhoom" King

Note: I am dismissing the Full Faired Karizma's totally here and not considering them for the time being.

But I sincerely hope for a Pulsar 300NS for guys like me.

Original news - Bajaj plans 2 super sports bikes under Pulsar brand | mydigitalfc.com

Range to be launched in next couple of months to boost sales

Bajaj Auto, Indias second largest motorcycle maker by sales, is planning to launch two super sports motorcycles under its key brand Pulsar range in next couple of months to boost sagging sales.

Pulsar is number one sports bike in its category in India and we will launch two super sports bikes under this brand by the middle of this financial year, Rajiv Bajaj, managing director at Bajaj Auto told shareholders at its annual general meeting at its corporate headquarters at Akurdi, near Pune.

He said these faired bikes will be faster than any other bikes in its segment at present in India. He did not, however, give more details on the new products. Faired bikes, as opposed to nude ones, have engines covered for better aerodynamics at high speed.

Bajaj was responding to a host of queries from investors on the future roadmap of the Pune-headquartered auto major, which at present had a surplus cash of Rs 6,391 crore as on June 30, 2013 in its kitty as against Rs 5,706 crore as on March 31, 2013.

Pulsar, which is in its 11th year, is the companys key brand in the upper end performance segment. The next generation Pulsar 200 NS launched in May 2012 had brought new customers to the Pulsar portfolio and set new benchmarks in terms of performance, style and technology. It won as many as 12 awards for product and technology, including for the best product design across the entire automobile industry. With total sales of 925,000 Pulsars in FY2013, it garnered 47.4 per cent market share in India.

Bajaj said the company would also focus on commuter bike, Discover to boost sales. Discover is the second largest selling commuter bike in India. And we will have a single minded focus on this segment and we have been working on two new platforms over the last two years. We plan to launch a range of six new Discover bikes this month and over the next six months, he said.

Bajaj said these new products would increase volumes, market share and profitability in the commuter bike segment. Discover will be the star of FY2014, he quipped.

Bajaj Auto plans to invest a total of Rs 400 crore this financial year. While Rs 100 croe will be spent on R&D, the balance on production of the new RE 60 quadricycle and capacity expansion at its production facilities. The company has set up a production facility for the RE 60 quadricycle at Waluj plant at Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

@aargee: I've expressed it clearly. News in place of news. Didn't I mention what Mr. Bajaj said?
As far as assumptions are concerned, everyone is making them. From Bike India to Motoroids. And Thanks for Copy Pasting, I could have done that too FYI, but copy pasted link doesn't open people's perceptions.

Guys, somehow this recent Bajaj-KTM presence has made us all expecting anything without thinking. We're getting dreamy. Alright, let's talk logic (without the ego please).

You think that in a few months' time they will prepare a new engine by re-planning the 375R's blueprint? With the Workers' strike and all? And even if they are using the 375R as a platform, what's the point of lesser cc's? If I was Bajaj, I wouldn't waste money & time on a 300 that has to be built up from ground in a few months, if it will cost as much as a 375 only.
And what do they have to do to sell a 200SS? Nothing much, they have a ready engine in 200NS and it already has a more suitable frame than Duke 200 has.

Think about it: P200 SS for budget conscious customers looking for CBR/ R15 alternatives. P375 for the upper-rest. Makes complete sense.

If there indeed are 2 full faired Pulsars then apart from the big 375 cc there could be a 300 cc variant. A 300 cc full faired could kill 3 birds (R15, CBBR150R and CBR250R) with a single stone (300 cc Full Faired Pulsar).
Yes it could kill these 3 birds easily... and so could the P375 SS (or whatever the name), based on the Duke 390. At probably a similar/ marginally increased price.
So, why would you specifically want 75 lesser cc's when there's a "ready" engine of 373cc's? Can't understand, please explain it to me.

    Let's see what happens anyways...

That's because there is a nice gap between the 200 cc new gen engine and the 375 cc engine. I see an opportunity for a 300 cc brigde to bridge that gap nicely.. not only in terms of Engine CC, bhp but also in terms of pricing.

I see some interesting & healthy discussion going on.....
Diplomatically, I see both possibilities but since BAJAJ clearly stated '2 bikes', we're left with confusion. I do not know Mr. Bajaj but I feel if there's a faired 200 cc, the pricing will be difficult because they just cannot price the 375 cc way above D390 (we'll know the reasons) and coming down from that price level, MAYBE a 290/300 cc makes more sense.

PS - Above post is solely based on my thoughts

Will these 300 or 375cc models can compete with Yamaha and Honda's Trust and Build quality ? My concern is that only.

Maybe the plastic quality in 200 NS isn't upto the mark but the build quality is excellent, way better than the previous generations of Pulsars. It's such a neat job, though it's a naked. If not better, it might be at par with Honda / Yamaha. That's my observation.
Bajaj R&D might have done their homework this time to iron out any few issues with the 200 NS to ensure they don't creep into the new Pulsars.

you are bang on SAT. i remember KTM CEO talkning about a bike which sits between D200 and D390. it can be and it should be a D300, and they can price it at 1.55 (1.3+1.8)/2.

now taking a 30k gap between P300NS (15k gap for P300SS) and D300, P300SS at 1.5 on road can eat Japs for breakfast, lunch and dinner...
