The Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and Indian Bike of the Year (IBOTY) awards are constituted in line with the international American Car of the Year, Japanese Car of the Year and European Car of the Year awards for respective countries. The jury of these awards constitutes leading automobile magazines along with partner JK Tyres, which have been associated with these awards since inception.
    Competition:
While the ICOTY was won by Hyundai Grand i10, the Royal Enfield Continental GT was crowned as the Indian Bike of the Year 2014. Overall, there were 17 products that qualified for the awards from which 9 made it to the shortlisting phase. Continental GT was in final competition with KTM Duke 390, Hyosung Aquila Pro and Mahindra Centuro among the top four contenders for the top slot. And in the end, the brute Cafe Racer took away the glory. As many as six jurors out of nine rated it as the top choice.
These bikes were judged on parameters like fuel efficiency, styling, practicality, technical innovation, value for money perspective, price, performance etc.
    IBOTY Winners for Last Years:

    1. 2013: KTM Duke 200
    2. 2012: Honda CBR250R
    3. 2011: Honda CB Twister
    4. 2010: Kawasaki Ninja 250R

Continental GT is a practical everyday motorcycle which lets you enjoy your rides. It is powered by a 535cc air cooled UCE engine which produces 29.1bhp of power output and 44Nm of peak torque. It is priced at Rs 2.05 Lakh on road in Delhi.

Barring the 390, there were hardly any contenders to pose a real challenge. The Aquila Pro was a niche segment and the Centuro barely managed to scrape the bottoms of the sales chart. Oh wait, didn't the 390 outperform the GT?

What to say?? Though I like the bike, looking at the parameters they use, I get a different feeling.

Bajaj is not stopping you, if you dont like premium tyres switch to cheaper ones like the Michellin Pilot series, wont cost you more than 9k for a pair and will give good enough grip. Or how about the stock zapper from Duke 200?
The answer will always be "I want the Metzelers" because like every real rider out there you like to enjoy leaning ur ride. If you want the performance, be ready to pay the price .

Overall for a 300bhp/ton machine D390 is as VFM as it can get. The nearest competitor costs twice as much.
NitinGirish and Legend Racer like this.

@riot, +1 to what you said.but please do post about alternative viable tyre options in the 390 thread that you know of.the zappers won't last.
as an owner myself of the 390 I feel the Duke should have been imoty for all logical reasons.the only part I agree with re cgt is definitely the retro-cool look.
