Default Yamaha R1 Recalled in India: xBhp News

Just watched a news on tv on DD news that Yamaha India has recalled about 100 units of R1 to rectify some manufacturing defect and may be a part of global recall as R1 bikes are not manufactured in India.

    News Approved.
You're right about a global recall. It has already been posted here, as a Random foreign news: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/194...ml#post1044264

But now, it is clear that it affects some Indian R1's too, so it deserves its own thread for the information to spread. I've added some googled sources for the same, as the source:-

India Yamaha recalls about 100 YZF-R1 superbikes | Business Standard
India Yamaha recalls about 100 YZF-R1 superbikes - Livemint

Something is wrong with the headlight. And like always, defective parts would be replaced free of cost. Only certain 100 bikes' would be recalled, those which fall under a certain production batch. And one source says that 2009 onwards YZF R1's are likely to be affected. The Lightbulb socket is likely to be replaced as a result.

Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor is recalling about 100 units of its superbike YZF-R1 in the country, due to a problem with the vehicle's headlight.

The recall, which is part of a global exercise undertaken by the company, covers YZF-R1 bikes sold in the country in the past 3-4 years.

"...our parent company Yamaha Motor Co, Japan have determined that a defect, which relates to Head light lead coupler overheating and melting exists in YZF-R1 motorcycle falling within certain production numbers," Yamaha said in a statement on its website.

This headlight sub-lead must be replaced at the earliest in the motorcycles falling within certain production numbers, it added.

"Yamaha is initiating a factory modification campaign, where the affected motorcycles must get the headlight sub lead replaced with a modified one," it said.

The company added that the replacement of the faulty part would be free of cost.

According to sources, the company would recall about 100 YZF-R1 superbikes in India.

Last year, the company had recalled 56,082 units of its scooter 'Ray' after detecting insufficient strength in the handlebar of some vehicles due to inadequate welding.

Yamaha made a recall suggests that they are serious and have done QA to analyse and rectify the mistake. They take their competition also seriously but one things that separates them is that they are not a mass manufacturer like Honda, Kawasaki, etc. They have their own game plan and they don't put too much importance on what others are doing.

Only thing that stands out in this pic for me is the stark contrast, not of the colours but the enormous gulf that exist between people of this country. Probably the price of the helmet shown in this picture will feed that mans family for an year.

If it would have been a QA thing then surely won't had rolled out to sales.
Or Might be caught by QA later on... But once it's in consumer's hand then it's a fault.

It can be a complain by few customers as well, making them to confirm and recall the units back.

It has nothing to do with Mass production, etc.

Yamaha is a brand image same as Honda/Kawasaki and even today Bajaj. Any faults in the product will surely make the company to rectify.

And they are serious on this. But some where these all products needs to be thoroughly tested, They are so good machines but at the same time a dead machine as well.
Any small fault which can cause a rider life is very dangerous.

If I remember correctly then there was a P220Fi and CBR 250 called as well for some corrections.

I personally won't like Yamaha product to be in fault. Because I love Yamaha!!
And Yamaha R1/R6 are their flagship product, in other words their identity.

My wait for R25 from Yamaha has started to fade...Don't know when ll i get to see R25 here in india.

Human errors can always creep in. It happens to the priciest of the priciest things too.
Good thing is, however, as you see the recall is happening to pre-2009 bikes? which by almost any Indian manufacturer would have been ignored (and its a headlight issue, not braking or something that can most definitely cause a crash... well unless the lights go off at a dark night ride)

You are probably frustrated by the color scheme changes of r15, or r25 taking ages (trust me, I am too) ...... but QA is doing its job. May be not for r15 in India, but definitely for R1's outside.

Very true.. and it feels very bad when during touring you have to answer questions like "How much is the helmet?" or "How much the shoes?" .. The answer just gets stuck at the throat when you know that it will slap the contrast of lifestyle on their faces.
Our lids or shoe or jackets can actually fund a whole year's education to a kid who isn't going to school because of monetary issues, probably working at that chai shop or fuel station and asks you these questions

Whenever a company does a recall, it should increase our faith in them because they are actually willing to take a hit on the brand to ensure that the consumers have a quality end product.
Unlike some of the Indian manufacturers, who seem to follow the policy "if it ain't broke why fix it"

The recall is for post 2009 bikes.
