Default Yamaha Unveils New MT-125 (250cc MT-25 Very Likely)

Yamaha has just blown everybody into small small pieces. Presenting to you is the latest from the skunk works of Yamaha, the dark side of Japan, the new and absolute drop dead gorgeous looking MT-125. Yes, the MT badge and the 125cc combination has just given the entire team goosebumps here. Yamaha has completely surprised everybody with this brand new concept of engineering. Sure, it is not new to us Indians as we already see madness in the form naked Dukes from KTM.
The MT brand was revived in Europe with the MT-09 and MT-07 which are 900 and 700cc engined bikes respectively (in the US it uses the FZ badge). Yamaha is throwing everything possible at KTM with whatever they can in their arsenal. The Yamaha MT-125 is nothing but a R125 taken and stripped off and given excellent set of clothes and a new tag, the MT tag. In the naked avatar, we must say it looks amazing with those well finished upside-down forks, finely chiseled body and sweet choice of colours. Upright riding position with handlebars is the cream of this package. Internationally it will end up being comparing with the KTM Duke 125, which has become an instant success.
Now what has really made us stand up and snatch our hair and shout out loud is that, there is no denying the fact that this policy will be followed with the upcoming R25. Whether it is a 300cc or 250cc, single-cylinder or twin-cylinder motorcycle. Details are sketchy now, but Yamaha has given the MT series a value for money tag on the top-end of the spectrum and doing it at the bottom end is no hard work given the fact that the Japanese rule the Asian markets with their lower-capacity motorcycles and scooters.
When the R25 and MT-25 (speculated) comes to India post launch in Indonesia and Thailand, it is going to create a racket which is going to be unstoppable. What happens if they decide to make it here because of the soaring demand of naked motorcycles? More hooliganism! There is no denying to the second fact that arch rival Honda has taken a step by showcasing a naked motorcycle prototype (CX-01) at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Honda CX-01 could end up competing with the MT-25 if Yamaha decides to bring these bikes to India. Speculations speculations and more speculations can lead us to write endless stories. As of now, we think many bikers including us have put their plans on hold for the next upgrade.

Now that's how you answer critics. That's a masterstroke I would say.. Absolute blinder, out of nowhere. We were all criticizing Yamaha for not launching the R25. And they drop this sex bomb to keep us busy drooling over. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous.. Speculations about MT25 as well. Yamaha, I'm waiting.. Hell yeah. Man, am I impressed? Let the discussion flow.

If mt250 comes at around 3 lac price tag, I'm going to book one in 2017.

    Fantastic news Venkatesh !
Well yamaha always wanted to compete with its rivals in the market and this step has just acted as a fuel bomb.
Rather than bringing in a dozen of motorcycle s in an year like the ither brands, if yamaha choses to bring in just a couple but a quality piece then I think this cannot be any better,

the bike is looking good but exhaust canister can be improved.

btw, the bike looks too big for a 125 CC.

I hope they launch soon in India at competitive pricing. I hate to see Yamaha just not bringing in what its perfectly capable off and loosing market share to KTM. They keep on launching scooters (100-125cc). Can't wait for R 125, R25, and now this MT 125!

Wow! These are actually much more beautiful than the MT-09. The tail and its light is very nice.

Whoa !!! That came out of nowhere. And look at the design. They're drop dead awesome. I guess/convinced this is why people die over the 'Yamaha' brand. Just a small request: Launch MT 125, MT 25, R25 soon in the Indian market, maybe in the next few months. As far as I am aware, they have already made the production model of FI added FZ and are now testing it. So Yamaha India arsenal can have the superb R15V2, FI added FZ/Fazer, sexy MT125, MT25 and the eagerly waited R25 in the next few months and the others will shut down their shop.

This is absolutely stunning for a 125 cc motorbike . But I doubt if Yamaha would launch this in India. Pressed frame, inverted front forks, fuel injection, rear disk, 12-spoke alloys, bulky tires, radical design for a 125 cc bike, all put together would shoot up the price like anything. If only Yamaha can bring a watered-down version of this bike with an upgraded 150cc or 200cc engine to India, it would be on a head to head competition with Suzuki's upcoming Gixxer 155cc or Pulsar 200NS.

I think it is time for Yamaha to launch such new products rather than doing some sticker jobs on FZ and R15. Even the facelifted FZS showcased in the auto expo is not very intriguing (atleast to me).
