Default TVS Motors Overtakes Bajaj Auto for third place in the Indian market: xBhp News

TVS Motors has overtaken Bajaj Auto for the third spot in the Indian Market for the April-June 2014 quarter according to SIAM.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers shared this data which shows that TVS has pipped Bajaj for the third spot on the back of strong sales in the scooter and moped sales. Bajaj which at one time was unchallenged for the 2nd largest manufacturer in India has seen a steady decline in market share, with Honda having overtaken the Pune based company and now TVS Motors has moved ahead with a strong presence in the scooter market.

Whether TVS Motors will be able to hold onto this spot in the long run is still to be seen, as till the previous financial year, they were also struggling with a decline in sales. A bunch of new launches in the smaller capacity segment including the TVS Jupiter, has helped turn its fortunes around.

Scooters have been the fastestgrowing segment in the 14-million-unit Indian two-wheeler market and have been driving sales at Hero MoroCorp and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India as well. Scooter sales grew 29% to 10.10 lakh units in the first quarter ended on June 30. Despite the recent changes in the local market, Bajaj Auto remains one of the most profitable auto makers in the world with it now transforming more into a global company with exports accounting for nearly 40% of production.

    TVS - Suzuki

    Hero - Honda

    and..

    Kawasaki - Bajaj

What a Indo-jap story its been huh..., now running on scooter & moped sales ... Interesting situation, as in the fact that initial mergers are no more... paves a way for rebirth as companies. I for one wish they have strong indigenous research and development work albeit in partnerships with world class companies or by buying and redeveloping a technology.

    Yup, I concur as well.

Plus TVS got Mopeds (the some manufacturer in India) that sells in good number in South India and makes up for a sizeable chunk of TVS numbers.

But who would be interested buy a Bajaj scooter now..?

Especially when Honda Activa is the default first option.. probably followed by the Hero Maestro, Suzuki Access, TVS Jupiter.. maybe a Yamaha Ray-Z next.. or Maybe a Vespa.

Would anyone be interested in a Bajaj (Automatic) Scooter?

Why Not ! If they have warmed up to TVS , Ray-Z's etc.. Why not Bajaj ! The company which transitioned from scooters to Pulsar's .. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be successful with their scooters.. might not be an overnight success but an yr or two later am sure they would do good numbers. (Like what the tvs and ray-z are doing..throwing a spanner in to Honda's sales)
I like the way Bajaj goes about their business.. the pulsar's , ninja's , duke's .. maybe they will go back to where they started.. just MAYBE

Bajaj needs a product with new name and better styling with the D125ST engine and features. May be named as Pulsar 125LS. You cannot sell a discover as such a premium product. Discover is always a VFM Commuter. Just sell Discover 100 and Discover 125(With Disc brake and tubeless tire option).
