Around six motorcycles will be bought and fitted with portable water mist and foam tenders that are usually used while dealing with minor fires in narrow lanes and bylanes. The cost of each motorcycle is pegged at Rs 5. 87 lakh. There shall be an additional cost of Rs 35.23 lakh to customize it and another Rs 99,924 will go for the insurance.

Senior officer, Fire fighting Fleet said:
"The bikes will help to strengthen the fire fighting machinery and speed up rescue operations. There are several narrow lanes in the city. During a blaze it is difficult for conventional fire engines or water tenders to navigate through crowded lanes. These bikes, on the other hand, can easily reach such areas on time and reduce the damage. Even the lane dedicated for buses near the railway station, is not enough for a fire tender to pass under it. Hence, in these cases such motorcycles would of a great use."

I suspect the tank capacity for water that can be carried on these REs.

And how much practicality it has when compared to a fire extinguisher ?

Investing in RE as a fire fighter, they could have invested in mini trucks which will carry reguried tools efficiently.

    Cheers,
    Sanjay

Sounds impractical but this will be very helpful in so conjugated areas like in old Delhi where a fire truck cant reach, not even a mini truck so something will better than nothing.

How much water and equipment will be put on the RE, when small fire can be dealt with fire extinguisher.

Lately we are observing news such as motorcycle ambulance, motorcycle taxi and now this motorcycle as a fire fighter. God knows what next

I guess next would be a RE jet fighter capable of going anywhere in the enemy bunker, no matter how narrow the bunker is.

    Cheers,
    Sanjay

Not going to be of much use if the bikes are going to stand in the parking for long
and then there's a fire someplace
and then the bikes are not going to start
because the ES won't work and kicking is like the lottery

Hope they know what they are upto. Brining in medical kits in case of emergency is fine...But carrying a small tank of water, I cant just image what is going to be the payload the driver has to tackle... A small topple or sudden braking will cause havoc.

How come no one has noticed or ignored the costs of acquiring these motorcycles!

Fire fighting bikes are used around the world https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_bike

I don't know why you guys think that it is impracticle. Dousing fire is not the only thing that fire fighters do, they have the responsibility of various tasks like accident relief, civilian rescue etc. The bikes will definitely be a quick & easy alternative for getting the fire fighters to the place of incident.

Only thing thats odd is the price as The Monk has pointed out.
