The Madras High Court has made helmets mandatory for women and children in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The Madras High Court said that the helmet rule needs to be strictly enforced and there shouldn't be any exemption made for women and children. A plea filed by JSN Nimmu Vasanth against the mandatory helmet government order was dismissed by the Madras High Court. The Judge also observed that these days 'hairstyles' seem more important than safety!
The petitioner had stated that nature had provided a skull for humans as protection. Vasanths contentions were called scurrilous, uncharitable and contemptuous by Justice Kirubakaran. More than 150 countries have already implemented mandatory helmets the world over.
