Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), announced the export of its made in India bike Gixxer to Japan. Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan has started its India operation in February 2006. From then all the Suzuki motorcycles for India was manufactured here in India and for the first time Suzuki exporting the #madeinIndia Gixxer to Japan customers. The first shipment of 720 unit motorcycles sets sail for Japan. The Gixxer is powered by a 155cc, single cylinder, air cooled engine with a five-speed gearbox and the variant being exported to Japan will have Fuel Injection and a Rear Disc brake and will be available in both monotone and dual tone colours.

Not sure, but globally Suzuki are the bottom of the Jap pile at the moment, at least in terms of profit, so may be it makes more sense for them to do thisThe hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Speaks volumes about Suzuki's quality control of localized parts available in India. They must launch the FI Gixxer in India soon, to keep that edge. If they had brought the Gixxer155 before the Yamaha FZ, I can undoubtedly say it would've been a different story!Comment

This is a 2001 article from HMSI stating that they intend to export to Japan/Latin America/Turkey and Mexico which I think they're already doing by now since this article speaks of doing it before 2004. I do know that the Unicorns were exported to Latin America.Originally posted by leech View Post
