    Mahindra and Mahindra has already announced that they’ll give a rebirth to heritage brands BSA and Jawa. They will be doing the same for another brand- Peugeot Motorcycles. Peugeot Motorcycles belongs to France’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer Peugeot and the division was discontinued 70 years ago. They have displayed two motorcycles at the Paris Motor Show and thus this revival might arrive much sooner than we expect.

    Mahindra and Mahindra has 51% stake in Peugeot and they have restructured operations with a mid-term plan called ‘Performance 2020’ which has motorcycles as a key part of its growth strategy. The company will be bringing to high performance motorcycles and the engine displacements will be 125cc and 300cc.

    Costantino Sambuy, CEO, Peugeot Motorcycles said, “The Company will be expanding on three pillars of premium scooters, electric scooters and premium motorcycles. We are trying to reconnect with the heritage, what is Peugeot today and what it has been in the past, we are trying to connect the past and present. Motorcycles makes up for half of the total sales in Europe, we expect them to play a critical role in the future."

    Costantino feels the current portfolio is ideal for the growing South East Markets and Peugeot will be launching them in these markets without any major changes. The company is also exploring possibility of setting up an assembly plant in Thailand in partnership of a local company to serve the South East Asian markets more effectively.


    The two motorcycles on display seemed to be derived from the Mahindra Mojo. The Peugeot P2X Café Racer concept had a 300cc engine and the P2X Roadster had a 125cc engine. The café racer features clip-on handlebars, a single seat with a cowl and aggressive riding posture. The P2X Roadster is a street-bike with oval LED headlamps and LED DRLs. The roadster though has upright riding ergonomics.

    The two motorcycles though different share a lot of key components such as the headlight, tear-drop fuel tank, the short front fender, USD front forks and twin shock absorbers at the back.

    Both bikes have front and rear ABS and a 5” full-colour TFT dash complete with i-Connect Bluetooth for smartphone pairing and GPS.

    Costantino Sambuy has said that the Peugeot P2X Roadster and the Peugeot P2X Café Racer will initially go on sale in Europe by 2020. But regarding the India launch, he stated that it’d be difficult to manufacture these bikes at a lower cost. But we can still expect Mahindra Two-Wheelers to launch both the bikes in India through its Classic Legends (CLPL) subsidiary.
