    Turbocharged Niken

Weird things keep happening in the world. When the Niken came out, it was weird. Not a lot of people approved of it. And now, a weird things has happened to the already rather weird Niken. It gets a turbocharger. Trooper Lu’s Garage in New South Wales are behind this project.

The only problem with the Niken is the acceptance factor. It is a wonderful motorcycle as we found out sometime ago. And now, it gets wonderful-ler. It has gotten performance mods and the sand coloured paintjob makes it look suited for an adventure in the post-apocalyptic world. The biggest addition of course, is the hefty looking Garrett 0.6A turbo, mounted just in front of the rear wheel. No specific numbers are available but it is believed that it has granted the Niken a 33 Bhp increase in power taking its power figure to 148 Bhp! That much power is enough for quite a few stellar looking wheelies. Finishing of the performance mods are some upgraded KYB front fork internals, and a custom Akrapovic exhaust and carbon fibre end-can.

    Red Dot Design Award

The other news about the Niken that we have may seem rather ordinary in front of this one but isn’t. The Yamaha Niken has been chosen as the "Best of the Best" in the globally-renowned Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019 competition. And with this, Yamaha has now received the Red Dot Award for its products for the last eight consecutive years from 2012, this year it also achieved the fourth Yamaha product to be selected as the "Best of the Best". The prize is also the second award the Niken has received since its launch, previously picking up the Good Design Award in 2018.

The Red Dot Design Awards, organized by Germany's Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, are widely recognized as one of the most prestigious design awards in the world.
