  • Benelli Imperiale 400 unveiled at EICMA 2017

Benelli unveiled the Imperiale 400 at EICMA 2017. The bike will be available in the second half of 2018.

Strongly recalling the tradition and legend of the House of Pesaro, with the Imperiale 400 Benelli reinterprets a historic model of the Benelli-MotoBi range produced in the 1950s.It is an authentic and pure bike, which in its simplicity retains its distinct personality, for a classic motorcycle with a genuine character, conceived for true free spirits.

The Imperiale 400 is equipped with a single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine with a single overhead camshaft timing system and electronic fuel injection offering maximum fuel economy in any riding conditions. Its maximum power is 19,7 hp (14,5 kW) at 5500 rpm, with torque of 28 Nm (2.85 kgm) at 3500 rpm.

Extremely easy to ride and handle, the Imperiale 400 has a compact and durable double cradle frame made of steel tubes and plates. The design of the exhaust and inserts make it a motorcycle with a classic yet extremely elegant style. The front suspension features a telescopic fork with legs having a 41 mm diameter and 110 mm travel, while the rear has a swinging arm with double shock absorber and travel of 65 mm.

The effective and balanced braking system of the Imperiale 400 features a 300 mm diameter floating disc on the front with two-piston callipers and a 240 mm disc with single-piston calliper at the rear, thus ensuring full control of the bike. ABS is also standard.

The aluminium alloy rims have different diameters: 19" on the front end, 18" on the back, respectively mounting 110/90 and 130/80 tyres.
Imperiale 400, offered in red, will be available in the second half of 2018. The price is yet to be determined.

My thoughts exactly, Looks a bit like a RE with a refined design but brings nothing new or 'eye-catching'

Not a fan of RE, but if I have to choose between this and RE, then I will always choose RE. Better resale value, service centre availability and service cost being less than DSK.

It's the exact opposite for me, personally. All the good looks and styling of a Royal Enfield, none of the traditional nightmarish experience that comes with owning an Enfield and all its problems or the dealing with apatheic and hopeless RE staff and mechanics, etc. etc.

They went full classic. Never go full classic!

Seriously though, I'd have liked a bit more modern parts in some areas. Like usd forks, led lights, may be a more appealing footrests, break & gear shifts, and so on. Like a Street Twin, or the new Kawasaki Z900RS. A bump in power to 30-35 bhp would've been nice too.

Have heard that it'd weigh around 200 kg.s(heavier then the RE). That's a downer!
