  • New Kawasaki ZX-10R design confirmed with the 2021 WSBK contender

The internet has been polarized since the past few days with the revelation of the spy shots of the 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10R. The design of the motorcycle has got the opinions of bike lovers around the world divided. While spy shots are spy shots, we are now sure of the design that the 2021 model of the litre-class missile because Kawasaki has just revealed their 2021 WSBK contender.

With the images posted by Kawasaki's WSBK effort, we can tell that this is the racing version of the motorcycle seen in the type-approval images from Australia that served as the basis of the spy shots of the 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The obvious point to make is that there is a big visual change coming to the motorcycle. The angular single-piece fairing with headlights recessed in the bodywork flanking the ram-air intake all but confirm the design of the upcoming bike. We have also learnt that the apart from the design of the bike, there are not a lot of changes that can differentiate the 2020 version from the 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The type approval documents also point to the new motorcycle continuing with nearly the same numbers as before which will point to around 200 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque. There is a chance that the peak power and peak torque will arrive at a slightly lower rpm to improve street manners. The weight is also being touted to remain the same.

Talking about the design a little more, it seems like the new ZX-10R takes some cues from the Ninja H2 and basis the popularity of the supercharged beast, it seems like the best thing to do... theoretically. In the real world though, motorcyclists around the world are finding a little difficult to wrap their heads around the new design. But we hope it grows on them.

While the technical specifications may remain more or less the same, we do expect a new TFT display with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. The reason is that all the new motorcycles that we are seeing nowadays sport this feature and it'd not make a lot of sense for Kawsaki's litre-class missile to miss out on that.

As we mentioned earlier, the unveiling of the 2021 WSBK bike by Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes confirms that the 2021 Kawasaki ZX-10R will sport the new design which will be in line with the spy shots. We have learnt that the official unveiling takes place on the 23rd of November and the bikes will come to India early next year.
