Thumbs up Kawasaki Ninja ZX 6R spotted undergoing homologation at ARAI. Will it launch?

Kawasaki Ninja ZX 6R spotted undergoing homologation at ARAI.

Extremely reliable sources have spotted the 600cc Kawasaki ZX-6R supersport bike at the ARAI test facility undergoing homologation tests. For those not in the know, every bike or car (excluding CBU imports) has to undergo a series of tests to determine if they are fit for use in Indian road conditions before being introduced in the market. Spotting a bike undergoing homologation is a clear indicator of a bikemaker wanting to launch it in India.

Note: Spy Pic not of ARAI.

Japanese bikemakers have shied away from bringing 600cc supersport bikes to India as the 800cc cap laid by the Indian government meant that you could not import any bike with engine displacement below 800cc unless it was homologated first - an expensive process. There is also the issue of 600cc supersport bikes being priced close to their litre-class counterparts as given their track-bred nature, they are as technologically advanced and feature sophisticated suspension parts as well.

Don't expect it for cheap though. A whole lot of R&D and expensive parts go behnd this segment... Expect a price that may undercut the ZX10R by approx 1-3 Lacs INR.
The Kawasaki ZX-6R in the USA retails for USD 12,699 (Rs 9.17 lakh) while the larger ZX-10R can be had for USD 16,099 (Rs 11.63 lakh). (By present rate, 1 USD = 72.24 INR)

    Hey Xbhpians,

If I were to summarize this news, it would be that ZX6R was 'allegedly' spotted testing at ARAI. A lot can go wrong between this and the point when ZX 6R is actually available between us, but let's be positive.

I just test rode the latest Ninja 650 last sunday, and its refinement was indeed up to the famed level that Japanese are known for. Expect something similar from ZX6R when it arrives, just a lot faster.

600cc SS segment is one of the most respect street/race segments among road bikes across the world. Its one of the favourites for most public racetracks around the world. A lot of stunters use large sprocket 600cc's supersports to do stunts.

We welcome it with widespread hands, although I understand that just like Daytona 765, its going to serve a niche part of the market. But still, seeing one or two in person on our group rides can kind of, make our day, don't you think?

@nitrosatya If at all the news is reliable and if it materializes, then Congrats bro.

@tanay Surprisingly, the link says that ZX10R has adopted the CKD route permanently now. Of course, Its Outlook India and they may be wrong too, Have a look and let me know what you think.

Kawasaki is anyway on a mission to assemble and later even manufacture bikes locally so if this bike actually releases, it could be a CKD. But at this stage the only things that they are procuring from Indian suppliers is the easy stuff like plastics, indicator assemblies and brakes in the N300's case. I think as time passes they will be able to procure more complex parts locally and make their bikes cheaper.

But I still hold the opinion that the low pricing on the ZX-10R was more of a stock clearance exercise. Let the new model come in and I'll be surprised if it is priced within a Rs 1 lakh premium of the older model - so if the base model is priced much higher than ~13.8 lakh then that would lend support to my theory.

Wow! Too good to be true! Anew ZX6R will be coming in 2019.

This is my childhood dream coming true! A relatively affordable 600 supersports! Only thing is I am not a child anymore! Age is catching up!

Samarth you should try a four cylinder Japanese superbike. That is even smoother.

Also if Kawa is on track, can others be far behind? CBR 600RR, R6 and GSXR 600?

Daytona is super hardcore!! I hope they get a new Daytona out soon!

I remember in my school days i had got a Cycle World magazine from USA. It was a Master Bike test issue. I used to stare at the big sportsbikes' pics for hours on. Those sharp tails and fat rear tyres! .. Childhood goosebumps!

I love all the 600cc bikes and my all time favourite was the R6. I dont like the new looks of the R6 and ever since i owned my Ninja 250, i have become a great fan of Kawasaki.

Recently, i had the Vacuum Sync done and i expected the cost to go North of 2000 but it well South of 1300/-

Well, i have a feeling the Service charges are also coming down to an extent. If what i think is true, then it will be great for the Kawasaki ownera
