Default UM announces savings and new colors for Sport S and Commando

The festive season is something every motorcyclist looks up to, whether it be the holidays or the new launches. Coming to the latter part, UM Motorcycles has already started the party by introducing new paint schemes for the Carb variant of the Renegade Sport S and the Renegade Commando. They have also announced festive season savings on their whole line-up.

The new addition to the color palette of both the motorcycles are as follows: The Commando gets a matte black paint job while the Sport S is being offered in gloss black. Apart from these colors, there are some more colors on offer for both the motorcycles. The Sport S is available in red, silver and orange while the Commando gets matte green, burgundy and black.

There’s monetary benefit on offer as well! Customers who purchase a UM Renegade can save up to Rs 10,000 in the form of cashback and apart from this, up to Rs 7,500 can be availed via PayTm or up to Rs 4,000 on Droom.

Rajeev Mishra, CEO at UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt. Ltd. said, “We hope that with the launch of the two new colour variants for the Renegade Sport S and the Renegade Commando, we add to the festivities and bring cheer to motorcycle enthusiasts keen on becoming a part of the RENEGADE family.”

There’s no visual difference between the FI and the Carb variant. That isn’t the same with the power figures though. A 279.5cc, single-cylinder does duty in both the Renegade Commando and the Sport S. The torque output of both the Carb and the FI variant is the same and stands at 23 Nm. When it comes to power figures, the FI variant churns out 25.15 Ps, while the Carb variant puts down 23.7 Ps, being underpowered by 1.5 PS.

Both the motorcycles share the same chasis and suspension setup. The front suspension department is taken care of by telescopic forks while twin shock absorber setup does the duty at the rear. Brakes on both the bikes are same as well. The front has a 280mm disc brake while the rear has a drum unit.

Now that they are being offered in the carb variant as well, the price of both the motorcycle has come down. The UM Renegade Commando is priced at Rs 1.85 lakh while the Sport S is priced at Rs 1.79 lakh, both the prices are ex-showroom, Pune.

I wonder if UM will ever be relevant in the Indian market? Every time I hear of them, its some variety of insipid news which does nothing to excite customers. New colours of unexciting and outdated bikes? meh...
