Default Royal Enfield introduces dry wash system in Chennai

Royal Enfield has introduced dry wash system across 20 service centres in Chennai. Through this effort, the company would save close to 18 lakh litres of water every month.
Over the last few days, Chennai has been facing water shortage and that has affected the day to day operations of the city and its residents. While this move by Royal Enfield might look quite small in terms of numbers, it will definitely motivate other brands to follow them. This will directly help Chennai save millions of litres of water every month.
Dry wash system uses less water without compromising on wash quality and also decreases the servicing time per vehicle. Chennai is part of the company’s pilot project. The company also plans to switch to this water system in the rest of the cities in Tamil Nadu.

This is really a great initiative looking at the global water shortage which is about to hit us in few years. Yes you read it right, it is happening at the global level. South Africa is having absolutely no water. 21 cities of India won't be having any groundwater by 2020 and 31 cities will see the same fate by 2030.

I know we love our bikes but the water crisis is far more dangerous than we can imagine. With this post I want to request every responsible biker and citizen to use water responsibly.

    Topic Approved.

    Thank you @ Royal Enfield.
    @ Other companies, please follow..

I've high expectations from Hero Motocorp, Bajaj and Honda because they manage a huge population of our 2 wheelers. Dear Representatives, if you're reading this, forward this message to the correct department and please do the needful at the earliest.

This is greatly appreciated by RE. We need intelligent citizens who could evaluate and support environment friendly governments. Let's hope someone up there manages this before we slip into a really bad time.

Bajaj/KTM have been doing for last couple of years already as far as I remember, but they are doing it silently without a big Press Release, at least here in Bengaluru in most of the big showrooms.

The last time I gave my bike for service my whole bike was cleaned just by using 1-2L using a compressed air water sprayer(the one used for plants, similar to that).

Also, It's been nearly 7-8+ months since I've wet washed my completely(meaning using more than 3-4 buckets, close to using 100L).
All this while I've been keeping the bike clean by just using a 1-2 Mug of water and a piece of cloth, it gets the job done 80% of full wet wash, which is enough for me(even though I've a bad OCD).

So it's not only the manufacturers at service centers but also every individual can play their little part in saving water at their home and add to water saving.
If we continue to waste water on washing cars/bikes to make it clean and shine every week, there will no water left out even keep ourselves clean every morning coming couple years

I see... Thanks for the new info. It could mean either of two things:- either the service manager initiated it, or the company initiated it for few SVC's.
As of now, I'm in a small city which is also on the list of danger cities in the map (in 1st post), but they still don't use waterless cleaning here..

Maybe the companies need to do a country wide initiation.

But the big thing appreciable is, you the biker is taking a stand in the matter. This makes me proud! I also hereby take a stand that I will not wash my bike with borewell. A lot of other things can be done, like plantation, making holes in mud to avoid seepage into drainage, etc.

Politicians are doing their best too. Modi I've heard has a plan citywise. Kejriwal has a few days ago shared his plan of using Yamuna plains to replinish groundwater before the monsoons, which should help tremendously in just 2 monsoons.

But we must do our part too, otherwise we'd have only ourselves to blame...

Dry washing is very bad for the paint, unless you are ready to burn through MF towels.

My suggestion is to just avoid washing altogether, unless you have dirt/sludge impacted in areas that affect the performance of the bike. Other than that, just take of drive chain and you will be fine. (This is what I do, unless I have to record a video or go to a motorcycle meet)

Another suggestion is to have a source for compressed air. Compressed air can do wonders!
