The Internet has been abuzz with rumours that we will see a new Ducati 959 Panigale soon. And seems like there was some substance behind those rumours as some folks have spotted the new Ducati 959 Panigale being tested. While the visuals are definitely inspired by the Panigale V4, the engine remains largely the same unit as the current one. This dismisses the speculations that Ducati may upgrade the baby Panigale with a V4 as well.

Ducati ushered into a new era with the Panigale V4 by dumping the L-twin for a V4 unit to do duty on their top-of-the-line superbike. Since then, motorcyclist netizens have been wondering if the same treatment will be carried forward to the new Ducati 959 Panigale. The Superquadro (as far as we can see) written on the engine casing says otherwise.

Though devoid of major mechanical changes (probably), the new baby Panigale does not miss on the visual upgrades. The motorcycle is now more in line with the new Panigale V4 line-up, especially when the front fascia is concerned. The fairing also falls in line with the design language followed for the flagship V4. The best change though (though it may or may not make it to production) is the exhaust unit. The dual-barrel on the current-gen did not go well with the Panigale appeal.

Coming to the changes, we expect to see the new Ducati 959 Panigale produce more power and torque. Some general refinement work is also expected. An upgraded suite of electronics? In all probability, yes. The current-gen motorcycle is propelled by an L-twin Superquadro unit that produces 155 bhp of power and weighs close to 200 kg. We expect to see the new Ducati 959 Panigale shed some weight as well. We believe that Ducati plans to bring it out alongside the Streetfighter V4 that they plan to debut at the EICMA 2019.
